Public Notice
Two meetings have been scheduled,
one in Henderson and the other in Mineóla,
to receive public comment about rural
highway and public transportation projects
planned through the year2000. Presenta-
tions will be made by project planners
from the Texas District of the Texas De-
partment of Transportation (TxDOT) fol-
lowed by comments from other persons
that are in attendance. The purpose of the
meetings is to present to the public the
Department's 1998-2000 Rural Transpor-
tation Improvement Program (TIP). The
first meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 16,1997, at he Hend-
erson community Center on Fairpark
Street, next to the Presbyterian Church.
The second meeting will be at 1:30 p.m.
on Friday, April 18, 1997, in the City
Council Chambers at Mineóla City Hall,
300 Greenville Highway.
The Rural Transportation improvement
Program (TIP) identifies surface trans-
portation projects, including highways,
public transportation, etc., located out-
side metropolitan areas such as Longview
and Tyler. The meetings will cover projects
located in the eight counties of the Tyler
District: Anderson, Cherokee, Gregg,
Henderson, Rusk, Smith, Van Zandt and
Wood. TxDOT is seeking federal, state
and local funds to implement the identi-
fied projects over the next three fiscal
years. Separate public meetings are be-
ing held during the month of April 1997 for
projects in the Longview and Tyler areas
by their respective Metropolitan Planning
Organization.
Public transportation projects may in-
clude capita administrative and operating
assistance to local public transportation
agencies and organizations. These
projects are financed through the Federal
transit Administration (FTA) under Sec-
tion 5310 (Elderly and Disabled transpor-
tation), Section 5311 (Rural Transporta-
tion) and Section 5307 (Urbanized Transit
System Program).
The scheduled public meetings are
being held to receive public input. All
interested persons are invited and en-
couraged to attend in order to voice their
comments concerning highway transpor-
tation needs in East Texas. In the interest
of giving all interested persons a chance
to speak, any person wishing to make
verbal comments will be asked to register
their name and subject with the reception-
ist prior to the meeting or during the inter-
mission which precedes the public com-
ment period. Written comments may also
be submitted to TxDOT during a 10 day
period following the meeting. The ad-
dress at TxDOTs Tyler District Office is
2709 West Front St., Tyler, Tx. 75702. If
you have any questions regarding these
scheduled meetings, please call Daniel A.
Aylor, P.E. at TxDOT, (903) 510-9232.
Persons desiring to attend either of
these meetings who have special com-
