"In the closing hours of the first session of the
89th Congress, Congressman Ray Roberts of
McKinney charged the American people are not
getting the whole truth about oil imports, the
condition of the domestic petroleum industry,
tax depletion allowances and natural gas regula-
tions . . . and the News Herald believes he is
right.”
"On three specific occasions during the past
nine months, Congressmen from Texas have had
an opportunity to show whether they tend to-
ward a ‘hard line’ or a wavering 'soft line’ toward
world communism.
"East Texans can take pride in the fact that,
through last year’s redistricting they acquired a
Congressman (Ray Roberts) who voted the ‘hard
line’ on all three occasions ...”
—Tyler Morning Telegraph
"The character of a man is tempered through
experience.
"His test is time.
"Service to his community, his state and his
country have conditioned Congressman Ray
Roberts. He has met the test of time, again and
again. Those who have looked to him for repre-
sentation and leadership have not been
disillusioned . . .
"The McKinney Daily Courier-Gazette feels
Congressman Roberts, because of his experience,
qualifications and his knowledge of our needs,
should be re-elected by the Fourth Congressional
District people.

"Ray Roberts of McKinney amply deserves to

ported Congressman Roberts since he first ran
for Congress and also supported him for State
Senator from this district, a post he held for
seven years before being elected to Congress . . .

Let us all who are concerned
to act come together on May Fel-
lowship Day.
Let us take stock of:
what we as church women have
already done to help eliminate
poverty;
what groups in our commun-
ity, both public and private, are
doing now;
where the gaps are in our com-
munity’s action to date and what
must be done to meet these needs.
Let us discover where and
how as individuals and as a
group we can best work.
Let us pray for a clearer vis-
ion of the community of justice
and love as willed by God and
for power to work in his name
toward its coming.

The call for May Felowship
Day is, “People-Poverty-Plenty”,
with special emphasis on, “Dis-
cover, Plan. Act.”
THE CALL
We know that one-fifth of our
country lives in poverty.
We know that poverty persists
in our community.
We know that the old maxims
about poverty are obsolete.
We know that we have enough
resources to wipe out poverty.
“If, where the Father has plac-
ed us, we do not fight with all
our strength against the world in
disorder, we are not real Chris-
tians. We do not love God. For
he said it through St. John: ‘If
he does not love the brother
whom he has seen, it cannot be
that he loves God whom he has
not seen’ (I John 4:20); and, ‘My
children, love must not be a mat-
ter of words or talk ,it must be

"We feel that Mr. Roberts’ service has been in
the best interests of his district and the nation to
a degree that justifies, not only our support, but
all the support that he has received . . .
"In many respects — all the way from his
philosophy of government to his personal charac-
teristics as an individual — Ray Roberts adds up
to the type of public servant that America always
needs — and never more so than during these
unsettled times. He has earned the right to con-
tinue in the critical post he so ably fills.”

It is often a waste of money
to buy a top quality automobile
if it is to be used by a poor
quality driver. The Institute For
Safer Living states that a top
quality driver is one who match-
es good car performance with
good physical and mental condi-
tion, sound driver skills and
know how, and a considerate at-
titude toward others. These and
other driver qualities make a
good car a good investment.
