The First Methodist Church of
Lucas welcomed the new pastor,
John Mathews and his wife, May
Ellen, Sunday morning. The Mat-
hews live in Garland and she is
a teacher in the public schools
there. She is working with the
parks board and its crafts pro-
gram this summer.
The latest report from the bed-
side of Mr. H. M. Kindle at Col-
lin Memorial is that he is improv-
ing. Mr. Kindle underwent an
emergnecy appendictomy Tues-
day of last week, and was very
ill for a time.

patient in Baylor Hospital in Dal-

The host of friends of Mrs.
Jimmie Williams will be happy to
know she has been released from
Wilson N. Jones Hospital at Sher-
man and is at home here. Mrs.

ing treatment at Collin Memorial,

returned to the pastorate of the
Anna Methodist Church for
another year, which is delightful
news to all. The Pittman family
is an asset to the entire commun-
ity as they are active in every
phase of endeavors. They have
made many friends in the year
they have lived here.
Miss Sue Rattan has returned
from attending graduation exer-
cises at Brownfield for her nep-
hew, John Hampton Rattan.
Rev. Jerry Poteet and family
of San Antonio were visiting
among friends here the past
week-end. He is now a chaplin in
the U. S. Army and will be leav-
ing soon for a tour of duty in
Vietnam. His wife and children
will reside in Odessa.
A. L. Harkins, Jr., and son,
Roger, of Dallas, spent Memorial
Day here in the home of his
father, A. L. Harkins and Mrs.
Harkins, Mr. and Mrs. Less Ward-
law and son of Terrell were Sun-
day guests in the Harkins home.
Mrs. J. A. Parker has returned
from attending the wedding, at
Odessa, of her great niece, Miss
Mary June Somers and William
Joe Andrews, on May 27. While in
west Texas she also visited with
relatives at Ida Lou and Lub-
bock. Her sister, Miss Maggie
Caylor of Amarillo and a niece,
Mrs. Elsie Caudell of Ida Lou,
with him after an extended visit
with the Heltons.

Master John Wesley Hendricks
entertained a number of his small
friends at the home of his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Hendricks,
Sunday afternoon on the occas-
i ion of his third birthday. Games
were played and delicious re-
freshments were served. Every-
one reported an enjoyable time.

McKinney and Mrs. A. C. Ander-

Mrs. Luther Haney, a graduate
of 1964, and is now attending col-
lege in Denton. She is the daugh-

Rickman hosted a hayride for
some of their high school friends :
Friday night, May 26. It wasn’t ;
an “old fashion” hayride - then
they used horses or mules and a j
wagon. In this case Mr. Rickman ,
hitched his tractor to the long •
cotton trailer to transport the
hay and the youngsters, but it :
was no less fun. There were 14
young people, Mr. and Mrs. San- :
dy Spurgin and Jeff, and Mr. ,
Rickman. They enjoyed a wiener
roast at Clear Lake Park.
Tom and Kay Strauss and the ■
children arrived home very early
Wednesday of last week after
spending the long weekend in
Corrales, New Mexico with Kay’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Cliff.
They said they wish we could
share our rain with that area.
Mr. and Mrs. Claud Roberts of
Carrollton drove by and picked
up Mr. and Mrs. Henry McMillen
Sunday, May 28th, and all at-
tended the Neal (Mrs. Roberts’
family) reunion at Clarksville.
Mr. and Mrs. Roberts formerly
lived in this community.
The Lovejoy-Lucas Elemen-
tary School came to a close with
a short program Tuesday, May
30. Mrs. O. L. McDonald pre-
sented perfect attendance certifi- :
cates to two first graders: Rich-
ard Agan and Kevin Broce. Mrs.
Elliott’s second grade had two
such winners: Richard Parr and
Louis McDonald. Mrs. Jerry
Thompson gave perfect atten-
dance certificates to 4 third grad-
ers; Gary Parr, David Thurman,
Ollie Thurman and Donny Bates.
The fifth grade had two winners:
Caroline Allred and Jerry But-
cher. Mrs. O. E. Spurgin present-
ed certificates of promotion to the
following sixth grade pupils: Judy
Allred, Chrisanne Ferrell, Terry
Hendrick, Larry Humphries,
Kathy Johnson, Carol Lewis,
Debbie Parr, Sandra Peterson,
Jeff Spurgin, Donnie Wright.
These young people will be en-
tering Junior high next school
year.
John Harvey of Columbia S. C.
spent a few days last week with
his family, the Nelson Harveys.
John will continue his studies at
the university the first part of
the summer.
Many from this community at-
tended the funeral of Mr. Lee
Cook in McKinney Thursday
morning. Mrs. Cook has the sym-
pathy of their friends in this com-
munity, where they lived at one
time.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Ussery of
Ft. Worth spent Thursday night
with Mrs. Ussery’s sister, Nina
Hogge. They and the Arthur Hog-
ges attended the wedding of
ina’s niece, Linda Gray and
Nelson Link, of Palestine, at the
Casa Linda Methodist Church
Thursday evening. Linda is the
daughter of C. W. and Betty
Gray. Her father is a nephew of
Floyd Gray, Musa Cook and the
other members of the family that
grew up in this community years
back. The young couple attends
college at Nocogdoches.
Jane and John Fort, Paul, John
Jr., and Cindy are spending this
week at their church camp at
Highland Lake, near Austin, Mr.
and Mrs. Fort are serving as
counselors.
Luana Guthrie of Amarillo
flew in Monday to spend a week
or so with her family, the Buck
Spurgins, and to be present for
her sister, Deborah’s graduation.
Bill will join her if he can get
away from the AFB.
Jimmy and Barbara Lewis are
new people to our area having
moved from McKinney to the Joe
Siler house in north Lucas.
Jimmy’s family lives in McKin-
ney and Barbara was a Princeton
girl, being the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Wellman former-
ly of Princeton but now of Little
Rock. Mr. Wellman was with VA
in McKinney and at its closing
was transferred to the Arkansas
city. We hope Barbara and Jimmy
will be happy out there. He is
with Intercontinental at Garland.
Mrs. Cora McGuffey and Miss
Thresa McGuffey of Houston
spent Sunday night with Mrs.
McGuffey’s niece, Mary Tom
Spurgin and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Biggs and
other relatives and friends from
Lucas attended the funeral of
Miss Ethel Burch at Wylie Fri-
day afternoon. Miss Burch was
an aunt of Gene Biggs.
Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Bogge of
Waldron, Ark., were overnight
guests of Margaret and Houston
Hogge last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Biggs at-
tended services at the Whitesboro
Christian Church Sunday morn-
ing.
Mrs. S. F. Acuff, her son and
family, Kenneth, Dorothy, Sharia
and Bridget Acuff, all of Colorado
City spent some time recently
with Mrs. Acuff’s daughter, Mary
Tom Spurgin and other relatives
in Collin County.

Miss Bonnye Reno is visiting
her father, David Reno, at San

Miss Ann Jenkins, a recent
graduate of Anna High, is cur-
rently working in the Van Al-
styne Leader office.
We extend sympathy to Mrs.
Jack Miller, whose father, Alex-
ander Hamilton, passed away at
McKinney, Wednesday. Also to
Mrs. Maude Sipes and other rela-
tives of Jeff Mosier, a former
resident of Anna, who passed
away last week in Dallas.
Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Powell
were hosts to members of their
family for a picnic lunch held at
their home Sunday. There were

Vacation Bible School at the
Westminster Baptist Church came
to a close Friday June 2, after a
successful two week period.
Mrs. Carol Passino of Dallas
visited with Mrs. Sue Knapton
and Mrs. Ida Bennett on Mon-
day. .
Wayne Geer has been a patient
in Wilson N. Jones Hospital in
Sherman recently. He is resting
well at home now.
Little Miss Sue Martin of Leon-
ard spent last week with her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eth-
el Geer, and attended Vacation
Bible School.
Pre-School will begin at West-
minster High School for children
5 and 6 years of age on Monday
June 12 at 8:30 a.m. Summer
School will also be held at this
same time and will run for 6
weeks.
Freddie Murray is home on
leave after a tour of duty in
Vietnam. He is staying with his
mother, Mrs. Rubye Murray. His
wife Margaret and son Frankie
have been here for quite some
time and are very excited over
his arrival home.
Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Clark, Mar-
tha & Brenda accompanied Mrs.
C. C. Clark to Corsicana to visit
with her son and family Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Clark.
Little Miss Liesa Lienne Vier
of McKinney spent Friday nite
and Saturday with her aunt and
family, Rev. and Mrs. Donald
Cox.
Karen and Johnny Self of Al-
