Mr. and Mrs. Ben Whisenant
honored the couple Saturday
night with a patio snack party at
the Henry Gable home in Dal-
las. Tables on the patio were
decorated with large arrange-
ments of blue and green hurri-
cane lamps surrounded by blue
and green giant paper roses. A
surprise gadget shower was giv-
en for the couple. Games of min-
iature golf and swimming were
enjoyed during the evening. The
Peggy, were Saturday guests of
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Dutton.
Cleta Bolin is receiving treat-
ment in Collin Memorial.
All the friends of Glenn Long,
here, were deeply grieved at his
passing last week.
The Dorcas S. S. Class, with
husbands as guests, enjoyed a
picnic supper at Bolin’s farm
Tuesday night with Mrs. E. L.
Leach as hostess.
We extend congratulations to
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Davis who
were married in Dallas Friday
night. The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Carpenter.
They will live in Plano.
The quarterly birthday lunch-
eon of the T.E.L. class was held
June 6 in the Fellowship Hall of
the Baptist Church. After lunch,
a brief business session was held
with Mrs. Luther Summers,
them home Friday and spent the
week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Holland.
Miss Beulah Jennings is visit-
ing Mr. and Mrs. John Holder at
Dallas.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Howell
and family of Topeka, Kansas
were week-end guests of his
mother, Mrs. Frances Sanstrom.
He was in Texas to attend a busi-
ness meeting in Dallas.
Wayne Shirley entered Wysong
Hospital in McKinney on Tues-
day for surgery. We hope his con-
finement in the hospital will pass
quickly and he will soon return
home.
The Rev. and Mrs. John Cook
vacationed in Tennessee for the
past two weeks.
Sympathy is extended to Mr.
and Mrs. Sebe Wynn at the pass-
ing of his father, Steve Wynn in
a McKinney Hospital, Tuesday.

spent Friday night at Allen as
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Scotty
Cawthon and family.
Mrs. Marion Risner of Garland
spent a few days here with her
mother, Mrs. Sam Jenkins and
other relatives.

Shirley Adams, a June bride-to-
children were visitors at Six
Flags on Wednesday.
, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bolton and
children of Waco were guests of
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. S.
Bolton and Mrs. R. E. Byrd, over
the week-end.
Mickey Drury, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Drury was awarded
a BS degree in Chemistry from
NTSU on Friday night, June 2.
Tommy Jo York and Karen
Sue Beaty spent most of last
week in Blooming Grove where
they were guests of Tammy’s un-
cle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Max
Mrs. Riley Hatfield, and was mar-
ried in 1921 to Bessie Mae Gib-
son in Collin County. He was a
veteran of World War I, a retired
government employe and mem-
ber of the Davis Street Church of
Christ.
Survivors are his wife; two
sons, L. Bryan Hatfield Jr. of
Wylie; Gibson Hatfield of Farm-
ers Branch; two daughters, Mrs.
Barbara Scott of California; Mrs.
Beverly Bel lof Dallas; five
grandchildren; four brothers,
Lee Hatfield, Wylie; Henry and
Dewey Hatfield, Jefferson; Cur-
ley Hatfield, Texas City; two sis-
ters, Mrs. Maud Williams, Jef-
ferson; Mrs. Emma Phillips of
Indiana.

tiful”. The class song was fol-
lowed by prayer led by Mrs. L.
Goeman. Mrs. Roscoe Leach read
the minutes of previous meeting
and gave a financial report. Miss
Frances Norton, guest speaker
for the day showed us pictures
of the present Bible lands and
told us how to be “Joyful in Tri-
bulation”. Mrs. Summers gave
a Biblical diversion. Mrs. J. M.
Angle led in a special prayer.
Meeting was closed with class
prayer.
Butch Holt left Monday for
training in the U.S. Air Force Re-
serve. Butch is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Virgil Holt and a student at
Texas Tech.
Mrs. J. W. Carpenter and Mrs.
W. R. Taylor were at T.W.U. in
Denton, Tuesday, where Mrs.
Carpenter’s daughter, Cathy, en-
tered school. Cathy sang at the
Trinity Baptist Church in Farm-
ersville, Saturday night.
Mrs. Roscoe Leach visited her
daughter, Mrs. Carl Clark and
family in Sherman this week.
Mr. and Mrs. David Worden and
family have gone on vacation to
Portland, Ore. where he will visit
his parents and get in a bit of
fishing.
Mrs. Doyle Merritt left Wednes-
day by plane for Auspaugh, Ger-
many, where she will visit her
aged mother. Mrs. Merritt is a
native of Germany, and this is
her first visit home since coming
to the states several years ago.
Announcement was received
here last week from Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Clark of Grand
Prairie of the birth of a son. They
have a little girl. The mother is
the former Patsy Summers,
daughter of Mrs. Leaman Sum-
mers. This is the first baby boy
in the family.
Mrs. C. A. Cass received treat-
ment in Collin Memorial last
week.
Sunday guests of Mrs. Roscoe
Leach were her daughter Mrs.
Carl Clark and daughter of Sher-
man and her sister, Mrs. Irene
Giddings of the Pavillion and
Mrs. E. L. Leach of Allen.
Zack Robinson, our druggist,
has been on a vacation to Ala-
bama. In the drugstore was Jack
Duff Lusk of McKinney. Jack is
the son of Mr. Leslie Lusk and
the late Gladys Duff Lusk, who
taught in our High School for
many years.
Eighteen R. A. boys and their
sponsors, Frank Johnson, Gene
Reed, Jr. and Kenneth Bolin, en-
joyed a camp out Friday night.
A week’s Vacation Bible School
begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with
a parade at the Baptist Church.
All children are invited. Mrs.
Dale Janes will be the principal,
with good teachers for all ages
through intermediates.

Bible School classmates viewed the Home and
Family Living Department, and talked with the
Corpswomen who were busy learning to cook,
sew, and manage a home. They also visited the
vocational departments, and watched the girls
working in each of the classes. The end of the
tour was completed by cokes and cookies being
served in the dining hall. When asked how she
liked the Job Corps, seven-year old Tammy
stated, “I think it’s just great.”

Mrs. Bettie Deaver and chil-
dren of Ft. Worth were week-end
guests of the Dub Prince family.
Mrs. Deaver and Mrs. Prince are
registered nurses and trained
together.
Mrs. Sue Waller and daughter,
the annex of the Baptist church,
where the honorees colors of
green and white were carried out.
Miss Paula Powell poured
punch and Miss Ruby Lee Kemp
served the cake from a refresh-
ment table which was covered in
a white applique cloth, centered
with white carnations, bells of
Ireland, and bridal wreath. A
gardenia corsage was presented
the honoree by the hostesses who
were members of her Sunday
I School class and the following co-
hostesses, Mrs. R. B. Bass, Jr.,
Mrs. L. C. Settle, Mrs. E. T. Mun-
ger, Mrs. Glen Baldwin, and Mrs.
James Holland. Miss Marijewel
Lair registered the 70 guests, in-
cluding Mrs. T. O. Vest and two
daughters of Rhea Mills. Other
guests attended, from Dallas, Gar-
land, Whitewright, and McKin-
ney.
Miss Adams is the bride-elect
of Delbert Vest. They will be
married at the Anna Baptist
Church, June 30.
Miss Amoret Geer and Misses
Jane and Sue White spent the
week-end at Kilgore.
Mr. and Mrs. John Reno and J.
V. have returned from a visit with
friends and relatives at Kaufman
and Crandall.
Mrs. Larry Ashley and Mr. and
Mrs. Coyte Ashley were notified
by the Defense Department, Sat-
urday, of the critical injury of
their husband and son, Larry
Ashley in Viet Nam. Larry suf-
fered the loss of one leg and
shrapnel wounds in the other
when he stepped on a mine. He
had been in Viet Nam only three
weeks. Our sincere sympathy is
extended to the wife and par-
ents of Larry and our earnest
prayers are he will recover.
Larry is the second Anna boy
to be wounded in Viet Nam.
Kelly Paul Cooke is recovering
from injuries received in battle
there recently.
Mrs. Vance Duke and children,
who have been guests of her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Hale, left
Friday for their new home in
San Francisco, Calif., to join
Vance Duke who has been there
about two weeks.

Funeral services for Lincoln
Bryan Hatfield will be held at 2
p. m. Friday in Turrentine - Jack-
son Chapel. Mr. Bill Shelton and
Mr. Bill Baker will officiate, and
interment will be in Ridgeview
Memorial Park.
He lived at 11:00 W. Lamar
street and died Monday night in
the V. A. Hospital, Dallas.
He was born June 4, 1896 in
Kentucky, the son of Mr. and

Holds Reunion
Children of the late John Mor-
gan Roper gathered Sunday June
11, for a reunion.
A bountiful meal was served to
over fifty relatives and during
the afternoon the Sartain Family
presented entertainment.
It has been decided to make
this an annual affair to be held
on the second Sunday in June
each year.

The 41,000 ton “flattop” has re-
turned from conducting anti-sub-
marine warfare exercises off the
coast of California.
For their performance in the
Gulf of Tonkin last year, person-
nel of the Kearsarge have receiv-
ed more than 400 Air Medals, as
well as Silver Stars, Navy Cross-
es, Distinguished Flying Crosses
and Purple Hearts.
Earlier this year, the carrier re-
ceived the Battle Efficency “E”
Award for scoring the highest
number of points, for overall
combat readiness, while in com-
petition with other support ships
