To the Editor of The American.
Regarding the sale of Austin city
bonds I am reported in yesterday's
American to have said that “We are
offering the bonds at a discount of 1
per cent for cash." This is not cor-
rect. We have been offered par and
accrued interest for the bonds if the
city would pay 1 per cent commission,
which is equivalent to one per cent
discount.
This offer the City Council declined
unanimously. We have refused to ac-
cept less than par and accrued inter-
est to date of sale and payment for
bonds. E. C. BARTHOLOMEW

Foreigners are the principal longs
on July wheat and oats, and as they
apparently intend to stand on their

higher levels than now current. "'Ad-

be obliged to look to North America

Sentiment in wheat would cchange,78
sharply in the event of favorable ;
weather for a few days. Ths most J!
conservative and reliable crop experts28
say the weather in the spring wheat !
country is excellent for the growing,
plant, bu* that wheat is all green and 9
late. While there are reports of black-i
rust in some sections, it is not deveb-
oping rapidly because of the lower .
temperatures.
The country is not selling corn as
freely as usual at this season and this
has placed the bulls in a strong po-
sition.
Oats are being harvested down State
and a good movement is promised, but
this will depend largely on the weath- '
er conditions. Exporters are taking
oats and small lots of corn. Argentinej J
corn is held firmly in that .country
and, owing to high freight rates, its 1
shipment necessarily will be smalL.
Large stocks of hog products are
held here and, while big sales will be
made to exporters of dry salted meats. |
the heavy supply of mess pork held •
here is a weight that will continue
to favor the bears for some time. '
Stocks of lard are liberal and there
is no outlet for it at the moment.
