Yesterday.
At a meeting of the city coumail
yesterday morning Assistant City At-
torney T 8 Johnson was aske to
draw up an ordinance calling for an
election on the question of issuing
$100,000 worth of municipal bond*
for the installation of an adequate
sewage disposal plant in Austin, in
compliance with the requfrements of
the anti-stream pollution law.
Under Fire.
The ci-y commissioners are now
under fire of the state board of health
because of the fact that at present.
In the absence of any other possible
outlet, they are using the Colorado
river as a cesspool into whose spa-
clous boson is injected ths germ-la-
den sewage of the city of Austin.
The commissioners have been given
only a limited time in which to make
some other feasible arrangements for
getting nd of the filtn of the city.
The Inevitable.
With then the step that is now be-
ing taken they regard as their only
loophole of escape from the dire pen-
alties of the law.
The formality of asking tbs United
States government for ths privilege
of issuing these bonds during ths exi-
genciss of war is now looked upon by
all concerned as only a little neces-
sary red tape, as no one familiar with
the facta in the matter doubts for e
moment the willingness of the federal
government to give its approval to a
bond issue, war or no war, under the
existing circu mstanc es
