Rusk purchases new senior van
The City of Rusk recently pur-
chased a 2001 GMAC Safari to
replace their aging senior van.
Seniors around town call city
hall if they need transportation,
and driver John Williams takes
them where they need to go.
He thanked the many donors
for the project, who helpedr aise
approximately $3,500, which
was added with the city's con-
tribution. The city also held a
golf tournament in March at
Birmingham Forest Golf Club
in Rusk to raise money, which
was organized by Mark and
Angela Raiborn.

Construction continues on Rusk's new intermediate school building. At the last RISD
school board meeting, members were shown samples of floor and wall coverings that
will be used. Dr. Largent told members that even though recent rains had delayed con-
struction for a while, the project is still on schedule.
'Christmas with the Troops'
hits Civic Theatre Dec. 6-8
The Cherokee Civic The-
atre will present their holi-
day production of "Christ-
mas With The Troops" Dec.
6-8. The musicalhas a "show
within a show'' plot. The
total cast numbers 75 with
actorsrangingfrom agesfive
though adult.
The play was written,
directed and choreographed
by Jill Swink of Jacksonville.
Musical director is Jan
Childs, assisted by Laura
Smith.
Santa will make a special
appearance with a sleigh full
of gifts and all of the Christ-
mas trimmings. The musical
score is full of 1940s tunes
and Christmas favorites.
The musical takes place in
December 1943 in the Shu-
bert Theatre in New York
City. Producers Bill Wallace
and Fred Morris are putting
the finishing touches on
their Christmas tour for the
troops. Actors, singers and
dancers rehearse
the
num-
bers
and Ih e
stage
crew
readies
the set.
Wallace
and Morris
enlist their
long-time pal
Mike Simon
to include
several of his
top acts from Radio
City. Stars such as Rose-
mary Clooney, Patti Page
and a young Frank Sinatra
join the ensemble. There will
also be a special recognition
of the United States' military
during the production.

7:30 p.m. and Dec. 8
