Pam Davis, RN forthe Cherokee County Health Depart-
ment, gives Hubert Waggoner his flu shot. Shots are
available atthe local health department. Senior citizens
are urged to bring their Medicare cards with them. Shots
are available Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m.
to 6 p.m. at the county health department in Rusk; 7
a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Jacksonville office
of the County Health Department and at flu shot clinics
throughout the county.

Cherokee County sales tax rebates
show 8.29% year-to-date increase
Sales tax rebates in year-
to-clate figures for Cherokee
County cities showed a minor
tick up by 4.02 percent.
However, both Cuney and
New Summerfield are in the
negative percentages, 3.09
and 8.69 respectively.
Cherokee County received
year-to-date payments that

The business economy
appears to be improving in
Cherokee County even though
the rest of the state shows a
chop of .5 percent in overall
sales recorded for the year.
Texas Comptroller Carole
Keeton Strayhorn recently
delivered $306 million in
local sales tax revenue to
Texas cities and counties,
0.9 percent less than August
2002.
"When the state's 2003fiscal
year ended Aug. 31, general
revenue-related sales tax col-
lections totaled $14.2 billion.
down 1.7 percent compared
to FY 02--an unprecedented
second consecutive year of
decline in the state's most
important revenue source,
said Mrs. Strayhorn.
The Comptroller's next sales
tax allocation is scheduled for
Friday, Oct. 10.
