FRISCO TONG LEADERS
SIGN PEACE TREATY
SAN FRANCISCO. Cal, aug. 7.
Patriarchs and Tong leaders of
Han Francisco s Chinatown, after
17 months of intermittent warfare
have ratified a treaty of peace.
Contrary to procodent. this agree-
ment will not be secluded in the
retreat of some powerful Tong, but
filed in the police archives.
After representatives of four of
the largest Tongs signed the ar-
ticles of peace the Chinatown po-
lice squads stepped unheralded
into the sanctum.
“Gentlemen of the Tongs," the
sergeant in charge began, “you
have signed and sealed the peace
treaty. Now I am going to take
the document with mo under the
promise that it shall not be opened
until warfare again breaks out
among you.
“And it anyone is killed, every-
one whose name appears on the
articles will be held in connection
with the murder."
