Funeral for Alsene Moseley
Criner, 85, of Rusk was Friday,
Nov. 9at 1:30p.m. intheMount
Pleasant CME Church with the
Rev. Jimmy Foreman, the Rev.
Marvin Whitfield, the Rev. Phal
Carter and the Rev. Joe Amer-
son officiating. Burial was in
Rusk Memorial Cemetery
Mrs. Criner died Nov. 2 in
East Texas Medical Center
Jacksonville. Shewasborn Jan.
17, 1918, in Birmingham, Jef-
ferson County, Alabama. Mrs.
Criner moved to Rusk at the age
of three and remained in Rusk
until her death. She attended
Funeral for Clarence Lee
(Patty Cake) Shears, 61, of
Rusk was at 2 p.m. Saturday
at Mount Hebron Presbyterian
Church with the Rev. F uller offi-
ciating. Burial was in Plainview
Cemetery at Ponta.
Mr. Shears died Nov. 4 in a
Tyler hospital. He was born
March 18, 1942, in Elm Grove
and attended George W. Brad-
ford High School. He was a

College. Amember of the Mount
Pleasant Christian Methodist
Episcopal Church in Rusk, she
was a school teacher by profes-

High, Alto, Pine Hill, New Sum-
merfield, Basic Preparation for
Veterans, Shady Grove, Adult
Basic Education for Rusk ISD
and George W. Bradford High
School. Preceding her in death
were her husband, Fred Criner
and a daughter.
Clarence Shears
carpenter and a member of
Mount Hebron Presbyterian
Church.
He was preceded in death by
a daughter, Stephanie Simone
Byrdandhisfather, IvenRufus
Shears.
Survivors are two sons, Ira
Lee Atkins and Royce Allen
Hunt, both of Rusk; a daugh-
ter, Shuronda Byrd of Tyler;
his mother. Lula Mae Shears
Survivors are a son and
daughter-in-law, Aubrey Don
and Barbara Criner of Lufkin;
a daughter. Willow K. Jenkins
of Rusk; five grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.

Pete Sanders.
Honorary pallbearers were
deacons of the church.
Thanks For The Memories
Rusk High School seniors cheered, twirled, played their horns and battled their
opponents Friday night at Eagle Stadium forthe last time. In an emotional moment,
the members of the class of 2004 gathered on the field in a victory celebration.
The varsity team moves on to play-offs, and the team won't likely play on their
home turf again this season.
Rusk State Hospital Volunteer Council plans patient activities; assistance is needed
Christmas plans are under-
way at Rusk State Hospital. The
Volunteer Council has begun the
2003 Spirit of Caring campaign
to ensure the patients have a
joyful hohday season.
