As the clerk finished, a man
of medium stature arose from
his desk at th* front of the
room and upon being recognised
by the speaker, said,
"Gentlemen of the 18th legis-
lature, I arise at this time not
to occasion your sympathy. I
prefer that you do not give me
your sympathy. I desire to di-
rect a few remarks to you sim-
ply to secure a working basis
with you at the outset of this
session. One year after the ar-

with an accident which made
me totally blind in one eye and
left but 7 per cent vision in the
other. Also it left me but 65
per cent of my hearing.
