The Lady Jackets, now 25-4,
advanced to play Rosebud-Lott
in the Regional Quarterfinals
Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Fairfield.
The loss by No. 12-ranked
Buffalo was considered an
upset. They lost in the state
semi-finals in 2003 and won
state in 2002. The squad had
won the Region XXI title three
consecutive year s before falling
to Alto.
The Alto Lady Jackets fell
victim to the Lady Bison press
with four turnovers converted
to buckets by Buffalo as Alto
trailed 12-8 at the end of the
first quarter.
The key to the game was the
second quarter. Alto fell behind
20-12 at the 4:38 mark. Then
u sing good shooting and taking
advantage of turnovers, the
Lady Jackets closed out the
first half with a 16-0 scoring
explosion. The Lady Bisons'
heads were spinning, down

game-high 31 points. Angelitha
Dickerson popped the net on a
three-pointer that also deflated
Buffalo.
Alto put the clamps on Buf-
falo defensively, using their
speed and quickness to cut off
the passing lanes. G'Undra
Skinner battled bravely in the
lane, coming up with several
clutch rebounds.
The second half belonged to
Alto, the Lady Jackets were
content to trade hoops and
pad their lead, working on
the clock. The third period
ended with Alto up by a 43-31
advantage.
In the fourth period, Buffalo
hit a three-pointer, but Alto
answered with six straight
points from Mitchell from the
free throw hne. Buffalo could
not mount a charge and the
Lady Jackets rolled to the 54-
A Minor Dental Problem Can
Become a Major Health Problem.
More than 85% of dogs and
cats over 4 years old have
some form of periodontal
disease, a painful inflamma-
tory condition in which bacte-
ria attack the gums, ligament
and bone tissues that sur-
round and support the teeth.
Senior dogs, those 7 or more
years old, are especially
susceptible to periodontal
disease.
That's why it's important to
have your pet's teeth exam-
ined by your veterinarian
on a routine basis. If left
unchecked, bacteria from the
mouth can enter the blood-
stream and travel to major
organs, starting infections
there and seriously compro-
mising the health of your pet.
