One of the feature exhibits in
the swine department of the Texas
State Exposition will be the fine
show herd of Du roc Jersey hogs
from the Pennybacker Duroc Jer-
sey farm near Austin. This herd
has won prizes at practically every
fair in Central Texas and hog men
exhibiting at the local exposition
next month are looking to the Pen-
nybacker hogs for some strong com-
petition.
The Pennybarker herd will be en-
tered by Bonner Penny backer, man-
ager of the farm and general su-
perintendent of the swine depart-
ment of the Texas State Exposition
of smilax, ferns and greenery, as

old building has been torn down
and sold, 3300 worth to the con-
tractor and $110.00 to Mr. Barker.

announcements concerning the
opening of schools Monday morn-
ing, September 17: Books and cov-
ers will be issued Monday, daily
programs will be made and assign-
ment of certain classes to teachers
as sponsors will also be arranged
Through the generosity of business
men of the city book covers will,
this year, be issued free.
A permanent registration sys-
tem to being arranged. Pupils will
be enrolled on two cards which
shall be transferred from school to
school or from grad to grade with
the pupils so long as they remain in
school. It will be necessary for
each child to know his birthday,
also his house number.
Parents sre asked to accompany
their children to school the first
day and meet the teachers
There will be an opening program
at the high school from 9 to 10
o'clock Monday morning.
Among the forward steps planned
by San Marcos schools this year is
the employment of two coaches.
One for the larger and one for the
smaller boys of high school.
J. B. McBride, mathematics
teacher, will be one coach, while
C. A. Duval, science teacher, and
three years director of athletics in
Grubb's Vocational school at Ar-
lington, will have charge of the
larger boys.
Miss Evelyn Hudspeth of Waxa-
hachie. will have charge of the ath-
letics for the girls.
Miss Mary 8. Carden of Chatta-
nooga, Tenn., has been employed to
put music in the schools from the
first to the eleventh grades. The
books for music will be supplied
free by the school board.
Miss Flora Lea Appleby of San
Antonio, has been employed to teach
one class in public speaking and in
addition will give private lessons at
the h‘gh school.

Cape, postmaster, was severely
hurt Sunday night at 9:30 o'clock
when he attempted to close the door

Hays county fair boosters' trip
were made Tuesday by W. S. Gal-
loway. A B. Rogers and others
The trip will be made Friday. Kept
14th, and the fitinerary includes
Kyle, Buda. Austin, thence through ।
the smaller towns to Lockhart. Lul-
ing and home via Prairie Lea. Fen-
tress and Martindale.
It is planned to have 100 cars in
the drive. They will be decorated
with banners and pennants and ad-
vertising matter about the fair
whose dates are Sept. 19-70-21, will
be distributed.
The band will play in each town.
Enthusiastic boosters, both men
and women, will go from San Mar-
cos and will be joined at Kyle. Bu-
da and other points in the coun-
try by those interested in the suc-
cess of the fair.
