make report of the road work

the roads in their respective pre-
cincts.” and finds that “these
reports indicate'that the rumors
' heretofore heard have been baaed
on actual facta.” The report is
signed by J. W. Tate as fore-
man of the grand fury.
If the next Lee county grand
jury adopts the recommendation
of the outgoing inquisitorial body
it may result in revolutionising
the road working system , In not
only Lee county but throughout
Texas, for the Lee county con-
dition is common- It is a matter
of common statewide knowledge
that the old-time' road-working
laws which require each able-
bodied man of road-working age
to put in a certain number of
days each year, in working the
roads of his precinct have been
observed mainly in the breach,
which condition. It is claimed, is
very largely responsible for the
decadence of the public roads in
many sections where formerly
fairly good roads were main-
tained.
It is considered probable that
the Milam county grand Jury at
its next sitting will take action
' similar to the Lee county body's
recommendation. -

Presbyterians after the morning

A committee has been at work
for several weeks getting subscrip-
tions to the fund for building the
new church and manse, but the site
for the proposed new buildings was
not chosen until this morning.
The Tyson property is two. blocks
north of the property on which the
present Presbyterian church and
manse are located and consists of
half a block /
me deciding to purchase the
property from Tyson, the congre-
gallon was guided by the report
of the church location committee,
which had fe matter of selecting
a church and mahse site under in-
vestigation for two weeks. This
committee was composed of C. W.
Lawrence. Judge John Watson.
Judge W. O. Gillis. Giles L. Avriett,
Mrs. R. D. Brown. Mrs. James Wat-

Since the property on which the
present church and manse are lo-
cated is in the business district of
town, it will probably be sold as
land on which to build business

following Monday.
This meeting of the Methodist
pastors will be a big affair for a
town the size of Cameron. Dele-
gates for the meeting will include ,
Methodist pastors in charge of
churches over a big section of the

’ towns among which are Houston,

New Luling Pastor Arrives
LULING. Texas, Nov. 6. — Rev
F. M. Jackson, the new Methodist
pastor, did not arrive in Lui.pg
until Monday on account of the re-
coat heavy rains. He and other
Methodist pastors who wore chang-
ed by the late Gonzales conference
were unable to move until this
week. Rev. Jackson comes from
Nixon and is highly, recommended.
Ho will preach his first sermon
next Sunday here. It is a coinci-
dence that the Baptist pastor, Rev.
M. H. Godfrey, only recently came
from Nixon, where he and Rev.
Jackson worked together?

to remove a bullet from his body.
Physicians who went immellately
to Gore at time of the accident,
which was about 1 o'clock today,

of his recovery.
Gore was shot and the bullet
penetrated his liver while he was

was employed. Willard began
handling and snapping an auto-

in the store Monday by another
customer to be sent off for re-
pairs. Both men supposed the

While handling the pistol it was
discharged in Willards hands,

who have failed to do their' du-
ties in road working be indicted,
and alf road workers who have
failed or refused to perform their
duties in working the roads, be
indicted," by the incoming grand
jury; though it is noticeable tbe
final recommendation passes the
onus on to the next fellow to
carry out.
The Lee county grana jury
states In its report that it had
