But, according to Mr. Whitten,
manager of the local Exide Bat-

of action is never justified. The
man who does this. is simply pil-
ing up more expense ard trouble
for himself at no very distant
date.
‘The plan on which these re-

One of the most imperative needs
of the day is for safer and saner
automobile driving according to D.
M. Mason of the Mason Tire &
Rubber Company. . ’
"When you consider that of the
T5,000 accidental deaths that oc-
curred last year a great majority
' were caused by automobiles, you
will see the vital neceseity for de-
viees that tend to meke safe driv-
ing simpler and easier," says Mr.
Mason,
“Of that large number, 20,000
j were children under 15 years of
age—and half of those were little
tots, babies of less than 5 years"
"In other words. In 1922 automo-
biles killed more Americans than
Germany did in the entire course
of the world war. The annual to-
tal amounts to more than all the
American troops engaged in the
Spanish American war. And bear
in mind that in addition to this as-
( founding number, there were hun-
dreds of thousands of automobile
accidents of a minor character in
which the extent of the injuries re-
ceived and the damage done to the
* : cars themselves is practically incal-
' culable."
13,000,000 Cara Congest Traffic.
"With 13,000,000 cars in active

has been made a part of the study
which the M. A. D. A. made of the
used car business For the first
nine months of 1923 the average ad
