Peorian Wins 4 Idea Awards
Four of the 12 awards made 5/27
by the Peoria suggestion award com-
mittee went to one employee, Lester
Newman, presses. Lester received one
$15 prize and three $5 awards. The
12 awards totaled $111.76.
Next winner on a dollar and cents
basis was Henry Felton, plant layout,
who received $25.83, the largest single
award, for suggesting a press for fold-
ing cartons in the parts processing
department, eliminating hand folding.Lester's $15 idea was to change the
track furnace to a screw type adjust-
ment on the cylinder to prevent it
from jumping out of place. His S55
ideas were: to put a curbing mtound
the opening by press #2010 prevent-
ing tools, scrap, etc. from falling into
the cable drum; a change in the pro-
cedure to light the furnaces; and to
weld a plite to the front and back
of press #2010 to prevent boards from
catching on fire.
Dorothy Olson, laboratory stenogra-
pher, won $15 by suggesting a change
in procedure which eliminated typing
a report.
Paul Wilcoxen, production dis-
patching, netted S 10.93 with the sug-
gestion of combining operations on
H-5558 battery box plate. George
Slee, inspection, was close behind
with -510 for designing a holder for
adjusting ID micrometers.
Awards of S5 each were won by
Fred Dwehus, tool cribs, Jack
Semour, welding methods, Almond
Pelton, PCU machining (A), and
Chester Alba, engineering. Fred sug-
gested a change in the stencil bench,
making it safer and more convenient.
Jack's idea was to change in the re-
inforcement bar on brake band
DC-3638. which eliminated two torch
cuts and saves 4~ of steel. Almond
suggested a change in tool size, and
Chester suggested guards for the gears
