WEALTH
One soldier lit a cigarette with a
$20 bill. Others built a bonfire of
the good American currency total-
ing thousands upon thousands of
dollars. For this ewas Corregidor
in early 1942; the invaders were
swarming in, the currency was ut-
terly worthless to the defenders in
their present plight, and they did
not want it to fall into Japanese
hands.
Currency is not wealth; nor is
the gold behind it, buried in the
Kentucky hills.
"Go to now, ye rich men, weep
and howl for your miseries that
shall come upon you . . . Your gold
and silver is cankered ... Ye have
heaped treasure together for the
last days." James 5:1-3.
Money is only a medium of ex-
change, worse than worthless if it
can't be traded for what we need.
Boundless wealth might be defined
as an inexhaustible supply of what
we need, when we need it, where
we need it. On Corregidor true
wealth would have been adequate
firepower, manpower: men, planes,
ships, tanks, anti - aircraft guns,
artillery, equipment, food.
The millionaire with dyspepsia,
insomnia, brain fag and inertia is
a pauper. The penniless young man
with intelligence, know-why, know-
how, muscle, determination, cour-
age and access to raw materials iswealthy. For raw materials, plus
brains, plus labor create wealth.
I was saying to a Birmingham
,man, "The Lord was mighty good
to you folks. He put the coal, the
ore and the limestone - the three
ingredients of steel - all in the
same mountain, so you don't have
to haul them hundreds of miles to
each other, as steel makers else-
where must." He answered, "Yes,
but we had to get eastern capital
to build the mills." I said, "You
didn't have to, because those mills.
are made out of the same iron you
have there in the ground." He ad-
mitted that they had plenty of men
who wanted to work. "You have
lcts of rich land on which to raise
food and clothing for them while
they build the mills," I said.
To have, we need not take from
others, nor even buy. We can make
what we want.
But material wealth is only for
time. "For we brought nothing
into this world, and it is certain
we can carry nothing out." True
riches, eternal riches are seldom
acquired in the last moments of
life. "Seek ye first the kingdom
of God and His righteousness."

PASS IT ON
From Help And Food, we quote
the following poem:
When the Lord has given blessing
by a tract or little book,
Do not leave it idly lying in some
soon forgotten nook;
There are others to be watered and
hungry souls to feed,
So seek to spread the blessing that
has reached you in your need,
With its freshness yet upon you,
ere the first glad glow has gone,
Let your heart look up for guid-
ance that your hand may Pass
It On;
And the one from you receiving,
blessing gaining, just like you
Can keep that blessing flowing and
"Pass It On" anew,
And when "The Day declares it"
and you hear the words "Well
done,"
How sweet to know the Lord was
pleased-you have read this,
PASS IT ON.
Are you passing on Gospel tracts
and copies of "Now"?Speaking Engagements and Factory
