In the study of mechanics, thermo-
dynamics, etc., we begin with the
ABC's, one of which is that theoret-
ically 778 ft. lbs. equal one British
thermal unit known as a B.T.U. I
went to speak at a Baptist Training
Union meeting, and I saw a little
notice on the door, "BTU Meets
Here." I told my friends there that
my training taught me that B.T.U.
stood for British thermal unit, so I
would ask, "Do you have any fire
here or are you fired up for the
Lord?"
It takes 33,000 ft. lbs. per minute
to make one HP (Horse Power) and
2,545 BTU's equal one HPH (Horse
Power Hour), and 3,415 BTU's equal
one KWH (Kilowatt Hour). One gal-
lon of the fuel oil that is now going
up in price because of the Suez Canal
situation contains about 135,000
BTU's.
