New Autobiography Released
The release of the new book,
Mover Of Men And Mountains, is a
culmination of two years work. Back
in early 1958, the Prentice-Hall Pub-
lishing Company contacted Mr. R. G.
inviting him to write his autobiog-
raphy. At the time he refused,
feeling that with two books already
published and with the heavy de-
mands on his time, the proper em-
phasis could not be placed on such
an undertaking. However, after con-
siderable prayer by himself and
those working with him on the proj-
ect and some persuasion, he finally
agreed to go ahead with the writing
of the book.
Back in the early 40's, many peo-
ple who had been richly blessed and
challenged by the testimony of Mr.
LeTourneau felt that God's dealings
in his life should be put into book
form. As a result God Runs My Bus-
iness, written by Albert W. Lorimer,
became a reality. In the following
years, the book was used in a mighty
way to challenge the lives of men all
over the world. In the years follow-
ing the appearance of the first book,
God continued to move in an unusual
way in the life of Mr. LeTourneau
and the events that took place caused
still others to request his approving
of the writing of still another book
entitled Moving Heaven And Earth
by Donald F. Ackland. The publica-
tion date was in the year of 1949.As following the first, so it was
true with the second. God continued
to move in an unusual way in and
through the life of R. G. and through
his travels every week-end, thous-
ands of business men were challeng-
ed to do more for the Lord Jesus
Christ. The combination of the min-
istry of the two books and the world
wide missionary vision, coupled with
an intense desire to see men say a
big "yes" to God, we feel is one of
the reasons why God has lead in the
publication of this just released book
entitled Mover Of Men And Moun-
tains.
The facts behind the writing of
this book is itself a story; however,
just a few facts brought to light, we
feel, will whet the appetite and cause
many to read this latest publication.
Mr. LeTourneau felt highly honored
that such an outstanding publisher
as Prentice-Hall would feel that his
life story deserved their backing.
Again, however, his big protest was,
"I am not a writer and do not have
time to do the job." After much
searching, a man was found who in
his own right is one of the leading
writers in the United States. He was
asked to assist Mr. LeTourneau in
correlating all of the events through
his busy life and to assist him in
boiling them down where they could
be written into story form that would
convey the power that has been ex-hibited in the life of the author.
George Scullin of Stony Brook, Long
Island, was the man chosen. Upon
taking the assignment, Scullin moved
to Longview and practically became
a shadow of Mr. R. G., traveling with
him every week-end and through the
week, also to the Liberian project
and digging back into the archives
for every possible piece of informa-
tion that would assist R. G.
Many afternoons each week for
many months, one could pass R. G.'s
office and find the door closed with
Mr. LeTourneau and George Scullin
deep in concentration as they worked
together to get the material in shape
that would ultimately become known
as Mover of Men And Mountains.
After Scullin had gathered all of
the facts available and talked to
many members of the family, along
with some of R. G.'s leading men
both in Longview and in other sec-
tions of the country, the concentrated
facts were presented to R. G. and
then the job began of placing them
in chronological order and weaving
in the testimony of God's moving in
his life from the time he accepted
the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour
at the age of 16 until the present
day.
George Scullin, who has written
stories about many other famous
people and collaborated with others
on similar tasks, stated when the
book was finished that he had never
had an experience like it, and felt
it was a very unusual privilege to
have worked so closely and to have
delved so deep into the life of an
individual and to find no skeletons
in the closet.
Of course, after the initial draft
had been written and R. G. settled
down to go over it word for word,
he still found many instances that
he recalled to memory and that
brought about a problem of re-ad-
justment in working them into the
story. However, after a number of
readings and such sessions, R. G. ap-
proved the final draft and his story
was sent to the publishers.
Recently, upon the presentation to
him of the first copy, his only com-
ment was, "Well, it is the Lord's
story and not mine. My only hope is
that God will be able to use it for
His glory." The book is now off the
press and if it is not available in your
local book store, it can be secured
by writing , to the NOW magazine,
Box 2307, Longview, Texas.
