THE-ART AIRPLANES
LeTourneau's aeronautical science students
have four new, state-of-the-art Cessna 172
Skyhawk airplanes equipped with new glass
panel cockpit instrumentation. The new
airplanes have two colorful 10.4-inch liquid
crystal display panels that integrate all primary
flight, engine and sensor data, replacing
approximately 13 instruments and gauges
found in most airplane cockpits. Fred Ritchey,
dean of the School of Aeronautical Science,
said the new aircraft provide students with a
strong foundation working with technology to
be more competitive in the aviation industry.
The units contain navigation and terrain
databases for the entire United States, which
enhances the pilot's situational awareness.-ca-
