Montreal asked rabbis to speak

courage their congregants to
act to assure that every child
receives Jewish education
JEWISH EDUCATION URGED
FOR MONTREAL PUPILS
IN PROTESTANT SCHOOLS
Montreal, (JTA) — Parents
of Jewish children attending
Protestant schools in Montreal
were urged this week to make
sure the children receive a sys-
tematic Jew ish education in
recognized afternoon Jewish
schools. There are no non-
sectarian public schools in Que-
bec, all “public" schools being
operated under either Catholic
or Protestant auspices.
The appeal w as issued by the
Canadian Jewish Congress and
the Council of Jewish Educa-
tional Institutions, which re-
ported also on a survey in the
Cote St.Luc area of such Jew-
ish education. The survey found
that 69.1 per cent of Jewish
