McAllen is the site for the
1965 meeting of the Texas
State Association of B'nai
B’rith, America’s oldest and
largest Jewish service organiza-
tion, which is to take place
March 19-20-21
Max Lutz of McAllen, presi-
dent of Texas State Associa-
tion, has announced that an ex-
citing and enlightening pro
gram is planned for the over
200 out-of-town delegates ex-
pected at the meeting. Lodges
throughout the state, headed by
respective B'nai B rith lodge
presidents, will participate in

JOHANNESBURG'S MAYOR
Johannesburg, (JTA)—Alec
Jaffe, a Jew who has been
deputy mayor of Johannesburg
for the past year, was installed
as mayor this week. He is the
ninth Jewish mayor of Johan-
nesburg in the 79-year history
of the city.
He was installed in the tra-
ditional annual ceremony in city
hall in the presence of the full
City Council and many distin-
guished visitors. He was invest-
ed with the Mayoral Chain by
the outgoing mayor. Council-
man Pieter Roos, and said that
the theme of his mayoral year,
in line with his efforts for youth
clubs, would be “Service for
Youth."
