Reel One—What Gives
With Cougars
You might have missed it if
you were in the stands at the Uni-
versity of Houston’s impressive
victory over Wake Forest last
week in the Dome. I’m talking of
the pushing . . . mauling incident
between the two U.H. All-Ameri-
ca candidates, Halfback Warren
McVea and Flanker Ken Hebert.
It was easy to tell McVea ei-
ther busted the play or was plain
dogging it as Quarterback Dick
Woodall was forced to run and
got hit hard. As the players gath-
ered in the huddle the firey Hebert
was seen arguing with McVea and
finally pushed him. A play later
McVea trotted to the sidelines
where it appeared he pushed away
from Head Coach Bill Yeoman
and would have nothing to do
with him ... or anybody else.
McVea did not play the last
half. Yeoman said it was because
of a groin injury. Hebert went on
to play a great game as the Cou-
gars won, 50 to 6.
Of course in the aftermath you
can’t expect the players or coach-
es to admit to the dissension. But
IT is there. And if it isn’t over-
come and McVea does not realize
he must play as a team member
as well as an Anl-America candi-
date it could spell "TROUBLE"
for the Coogs. I’d hate to see it
happen . . . and I think Hebert
was wrong to “wash the dirty
linen” in public. But now that it
is in the open . . . get it aired out
and cleared up so the Cougars
can go on to a glorious season.
