The running attack
will be headed by
Tracy Tuck and Mike
One especially
classic statement was
made by a voter who
preferred to remain
anonymous,”We may have
a bunch of problems,
but for those that
don’t have the get-up-
and-go to make it to
the polls—well, they
have no right to gripe
about the outcome...
no matter what it is.”
For any fan of foot-
ball this promises to
be a classic battle
between rival teams.
The action will begin
at 8 p.m. and it looks
as if it will cert-
ainly be a good, hard-
nosed football game.
of the consumer in
Erath County--trying
to make a dollar,
worth less than ever,
cover costs that have
hit record highs.
With the November
elections shortly be-
hind us, perhaps it
is now time to put
some perspective
thought into the pre-
election mood of
Stephenville citizens.
Graham has been using
an interesting offense
this year that is dif-
ficult to defend acc-
ording to Coach Manley.
The defense is an
exotic type of triple
option offense where
the quarterback has
mhdtiple options to
pass, run or pitch
out to a running back.
Manley, as head men-
tor for the Jackets
stated that the en-
thusiasm was running
at a near fever pitch
among all the athlete.'
especially the senior
who will be playing
their last home game
and next to the last
game ever for the .
school.
Many were concerned
that this type of
situation might arise
again if the proper
nominees were not out
in office by the vo-
ters. There was also
a great deal of att-
ention directed to-
ward the financial
status of this com-
munity as well as the
economics of the nation
on the’ whole.
In a small sampling
of the feelings of
some of the area res-
idents it became evi-
dent early that if
there was any common
denominator in the
average voter,it was
a general mood of
dissatisfaction about
the present state of
things.
Workhorses for the
Jackets will include
many standouts on both
offense and defense.
Offensively, in the
passing situations,
Stephenville will heu
going to the combi-
nation of quarterback
Bill Parham to either
Rodney Carpenter or
Rickey DeLoach who
have been favorite re-
ceivers this year with
the able backup of sev-
eral good players with
more than adequate
Chands” for the ball.
The Yellow Jackets
will face District
3A-5 foe,Graham,
in action that has
all the markings
of one of the best
match-ups of the
year. In an inter-
view with Manley
the fact was
brought out that
two teams will be
facing each other
with identical
District win-loss
records. Both
teams have been
oriented toward
the defensive
plays and this
game has all the
signs of beingthat
type of battle.
The Graham Steers
have not scored
more than three
touchdowns in any
of their games
thus far this year.
The Yellow Jackets
have had their
problems this year
with hot and cold
flashes, playing
ditremely well at
times and poorly
at others.
Lewis who have both
been in on the ball-
handling chores this
season. Coach Manley
quickly added "There
are many able players
in the wings. The S.H
team has a great deal
of depth this year
with 16 of 26 players
returning for next
year’s efforts"

The recent problems
of the beef and dairy
industries were defi-
nitely on the minds of
many of these people;
most were of the no-
tion that the govern-
ment could and should
make some provisions
to take care of this
problem as weli as the
ever-growing worry
Manley also spoke of
the Steers as better
defensively than they
were last year when
the Jackets defeated
them by a score of
21 to 15. He is ex-
pecting a real shoot-
out between the teams
in this game, being
both a Homecoming
effort as well as
near the end of the
season.
Activity about
the Stephenville
High School is
increasing each
day as Head Coach
Leon Manley be-
gins preparation
for the annual
Homecoming Acti-
vities slated to 1
begin this Fri-
day, Nov.8 at 8
p.m. at Tarleton
Memorial Field.
It was surprising to
this reporter that the
odorous smell of the
Watergate fiasco still
hung heavily about the
city. In a clear ma-
jority of the people
I a pproached about the
elections, the ominous
term came up in the
conversation over and.
hover again.
Graham will be head-
ed defensively by a
star player in the
person of David
Jennings who has been
their workhorse in
the defense all sea-
son long. Offensive-
ly the helm will be
manned for the Steers
by Brad Wages and
Brian Williams who i
play the positions of
pilback and quarter-
back respectively.
