Four orders were passed by
Austin County Commissioners
Court in their July 1st session,
according to recorded data In
the office of County Judge W.
D. Bryan.
One order authorizes Austin
County to enter into a contract
with Shell Pipeline Corporation
for the lowering and easing of
its 8 inch pipeline on Highway
36 in Austin Co., on part of the
right of way used for widening
Highway 36, where Shell has its
private easement. It was also
ordered that the county pay
Shell $2301.11 for the work,
which is in the Miles E. Allen
Survey.
Another order was passed de-
claring a road north of High-
way 90 in the San Felipe town
tract, not a part of Austin
County's road system. A Sealy
group asked in petition that the
road be abandoned, since the
road is not used by the county
and is not necessary as part of
the county road system. ,
Two orders authorized the
payment to owners for right of

A Rosenberg man, Russell K.
Hand, 50, of 1238 Louise, died
in a one-car crash about six
miles south of Sealy at 2:10
p.m. Wednesday, July 5. He was
alone in his 1955 Chevrolet
when the accident occurred.
Deputy Ernest Snitkin, Con-
stable Joe Pyka, Sr., and High-
way Patrolman Jack Graham
investigated. Deputy Snitkin
said the man apparently died
with a broken neck and crushed
chest. He said the car hit a cul-
vert and tree on the west side of
the pavement on Highway 36,
after two wheels had left the
pavement, pulled back on and
crossed the highway to the left.
Leonard Hintz, local justice
of the peace, held a coroner’s
inquest and returned a "verdict
of death due to car accident.
The body of Mr. Hand was tak-
en by Etlinger Ambulance to
the Pete E. Etlinger Funeral
Home in Sealy. It was later tak-
en to Germany and Company in
Rosenberg.
At the time of the accident
Mr. Hand's wife was enroute to
New Mexico to visit their son,
S/2c Kenneth Hand, at the nav-
al air station. Her son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Neil
Heath of • Rosenberg, were ac-
companying her.

Approximately 40,000 Gulf
shrimp have a new head dress
in a research program of the
Game and Fish Commission, ac-
cording to Hoyard Lee, director
of marine fisheries.
Biologists of the department
during the last two weeks have
netted and stained the heads of
these shrimp. The coloring is
injected with a hypo needle.
Fishermen and netters who take
these shrimp are asked to re-
port them to the nearest game
warden or the marine labora-
tory at Rockport.
This is a part of the study of
' the migration of shrimp in the
coastal waters. Last year a
similar program was carried
out by the U. S Fish and Wild-
life Service. As a result, there
are now shrimp in the Gulf wat-
ers that have pink heads and
some with green heads.
When the shrimp are retaken,
it is possible for the biologists
to have some record of the mi-
gratory habits of the shrimp.
This will enable better protec-
tion in certain waters, resulting
in better harvests later.
Taggers also have been busy
in Lower Laguna Madre waters,
catching and marking trout,
red fish and drum. Here metal
tags are used. Fishermen taking
any of these tagged fish are re-
quested to provide information
to the biologists.
