BILLY WATSON
Rusk
During this miraculous time
of year, we want to take the
opportunity to say thank you
for your efforts in supporting
the children of Texas Lions
Camp.
With your help and sacrifice,
1,536 children with special
medical conditions were af-
forded the chance to partici-
pate on a level playing field,
with their peers in 2008...
some for the very first time.
It would have been worth
it for just one child, but with
your intervention, it happened
for the second largest number
of children in TLC's 60-year
history. Thank you for a job

Cherokee County officials elected Nov. 4, 2008, and sworn-in on Jan. 1 were from left Katherine Pinotti, precinct
3 commissioner; Jack White, precinct 2 constable; Lynn Kelley, precinct 1 constable; Linda Little, tax assessor-
collector; Craig Caldwell, county attorney; Dwight Phifer, 2nd judicial district court judge; second row, James
Campbell, sheriff; Elmer Beckworth, district attorney; Kelly Traylor, precinct 1 commissioner; and Jamie Beene,
precinct 4 constable. Precinct 3 constable Eddie Lee is not pictured.
As 2009 comes into our door
the news says just about ev-
erything is awful, and it sure
looks like a lot of doom and
gloom. But our President-
elect says, "We Can" and I say,
"We Will." Here are four good
reasons why:
Americans love our country
and we never give up without
a fight, and it doesn't matter
if it is finances or terrorists.
Americans have always been
a lot like the cranberries that
finally reach our stores.
An old Science Digest ar-
ticle says cranberries are put
through a series of bounce
fe^ts. At each level, the cran-
berry has to take a fall, then
bounce back over an 8-10 inch
barrier-and do it 11 times-- to
be successful.
America has taken a few falls
before, but we always bounce
back. There are millions of
Americans who can and will
do the same in 2009. We know
God's formula for success —
love God, love each other, hve
by the golden rule.
We also know His promises:
"For Iknow the plans Ihayfefor
you. says the Lord, to give you
a future and a hope. (Jer 29:11)
and "I am with thee and will
keep thee in all places where
thou goest." (Gen 28:15)
Finally, we know we have
the support of our family and
friends. I keep an old card
from a beloved aunt which
reflds: "Wishing you rainbows
on rainy days, a hand to hold
always and love to surround
you."
That is also my wish
for you in every year.
This new year may be a little
bumpy, but we know how to
handle it. We can and we
will. It's the American way.
Gocl Bless America and happy
new year.
