with an interesting note attached. “This
plantation brick was found on my proper-
ty, on part of the property which is
known as “The Mound,” or “Ross
Mound.” The property is in Waller
County. It was part of a large plantation
named the “Mound Plantation,” and is
adjacent to the Old National Road. We
have been told that there was a cotton
gin and several houses on the mound in
late 1800’s. We found parts from the old
gin, as well as many pieces of bricks and
other artifacts.
El Pleasant comes alive also. It is only
a railroad sign on an old Santa Fe siding
on highway 36 Southeast of Sealy.
Orville Benton mentions of a few build-
ings that were erected in the 1800s. The
buildings were made of bricks that were
made in El Pleasant.
A collector of bricks would be happy
with bricks with names such as Mound
Plantation, San Felipe or El Pleasant.
Remember the sign real well, for in the
sugar cane hauling from Frydek to
Orchard, I always noted the sign.
From Hallettsville comes a well-used
brick with Bull on it. It came from 13
miles east of the town on Brady Stark
property. Don McElroy brought me the
brick and information of a historian in
the area. Hope the history comes alive
for it would delight me to give the infor-
mation under the title, Its no bull, there
is a bull brick!
Brought back from Ohio is a very large
paving block. It weights 12 pounds.
Greater Cleveland is on the brick. John
Sebok gives it to the collection.
