Northwest and Lake Worth square off at Northwest.
Both have identical records, both for the season and in district,
and both hold a 6-0 decision over league foe Grapevine.
Alvord is the seventh area team with a good chance of copping
its district title.
BULLDOGS RIDE FOUR-GAME STREAK
The Bulldogs are riding a four-game winning streak which
has brought their season record to 4-4. They’ve won both 11-B
starts and need only a win over Aledo Nov. 16 to sew up the
title.
Halfback George Bishop has been doing a fine job for the
Bulldogs with his running and kicking.
• Lewisville has an outside chance of sharing the District Il-AA
crown but the Farmers must upset top rated Rockwall this week
to do it. They are 4-3 for the year and 1-1 in district.
Overall the area has won 55 games, lost 50 and tied 8 with

With the two sports bodies still
at loggerheads after a more than .
2%-year battle, settlement is con-
sidered a must if the United
States is to field a representative
team at Buenos Aires and the fol-

“We're a people who work

“Gradually public opinion is going

The AAU-NCAA struggle so far
has triggered formation of federa-

each created with the NCAA as
a charter member and aimed at
winning recognition from the in-

each sport.

Another high school football season is fast drawing to an end
and from this vantage point it looks like a highly successful one
for the Denton area
Seven of the sixteen teams in this area are in the thick of flag
chases with all of them in good position to cash in and advance
into bi-district playoffs. - „
Valley View, Fred Moore, Era and Frisco are all unbeaten and
three of these four teams are virtually assured of a playoff berth.
Either Valley View (7-0) or Era (6-0-1) to almost a certainty
to represent 10-B. The Eagles, under Coach Sammy Stanger for
just two years, are favored to go all the way but Era, which has
lost few times under the reigns of Walt Hinson, is defending
champion and the Hornets will be hard to displace.
The two clubs are currently tied for the 10-B lead with 2-0
marks and should continue that way until Nov. 16 when they
clash in Valley View.
VALLEY VIEW MORE IMPRESSIVE
Valley View has been the more impressive, rolling up 187 points
in seven games behind the running of little senior halfback
David Hogan and sophomore fullback Tim Sparkman.
The Eagles also have had exceptional line play from Cary
Nehib, Rex Mask and Larry Martindale.
Era has not had any outstanding players such as Neal Wilson
and Clifford Southard but has had real fine line play all season,
particularly from Wilber Matthews, Billy Hudspeth and Stacy
Russell. Richard Kirby and Don Hutcherson have done yeoman
work in the backfield.
Fred Moore, sporting a 6-0 season record and an outstanding
offensive machine, is practically a cinch to take its second straight
2-AA Negro football championship.
TOP BACKGFIELD AT FRED MOORE
The Dragons have a backfield which is as good or better than
the foursome which led Fred Moore to a 10-1 season record in
1961.
Kenneth Hunter and Willie Redmon, operating from halfback
posts. furnish C H. Collins with the home run threat from any
spot of the field. Hunter has accounted for 88 points—even
though sitting out one entire game—on 14 TDs and two running
conversions.
Redmon has rambled for nine TDs and five two-pointers for 64
points.
Rounding out the backfield for Fred Moore are quarterback
Jerry Frank Price (60 points) and fullback James Vaughner
(50 points).
DRAGONS OWN 4-0 LOOP MARK
The Dragons are 4-0 in district with three loop contests to play.
They meet Wilmer-Hutchins this week before tackling Grand
Prairie and Greenville to round out their slate.
Frisco virtually sewed up the 15-A title last week, walloping
Pilot Point 46-14. Hie Coons are now 6-0-2 for the year and 2-0
in district They have only to beat Farmersville and Wylie-
who combined have produced only one victory in 14 games—to
capture the Class A crown their first year in the ranks.
Stanley Jaggers also has a fine backfield featuring not four but
five top lads.
Dean Reynolds and Larry Smith handle the signal-calling chores
about equally while Charles Cunningham, Jack Jones and Larry
Hope deal misery from the running spots.
Cunningham is the area's seventh best scorer with 54 points
while Jones is not far away at 44. Hope has 42, Reynolds 32
and Smith 20.
McKinney should cop 6-AAA
McKinney, 5-1 and 2-0, is in a good position to take the bunting
in 6-AAA. Led by quarterback Ronnie Goforth and lineman Ted
Robinson, the Lions probably will get their stiffest test from de-
fending champion Gainesville.
Les Cowan, in his second year at Northwest, has built a chal-
lenger out of the Fighting Texans. Fullback Dennis Dicker and
end Mike Van Meter have been the big guns in leading Northwest
to a 4-2-1 season record and 2-0 district mark.
The 10-AA crown probably will be decided Nov. 16 when
and those little flare-out passes
