is: "Hail 0 people of the heroes!"
The first line of the Russian "Interna-
tionale" is: "Arise ye prisoners of star-
vation!" (How true in Russia!)
The first line of the "Star-Spangled
Banner" is: "Oh, say can you see by the
dawn's early light."
"These are all battle songs. The one
exception is the national air of a coun-
try that has conquered about a third of
the earth in her time-England. 'God
Save the King' sounds like a birthday
greeting to a ruler. It contains nothing
about war or breaking chains or slam-
ming the enemy. It comes nearer to be-
ing a hymn to peace and happy days
than any other national air that I know
of.
"Curious, too, there is no great or fa-
mous poem to peace that I can think of.
We talk a great deal about peace. But
is it in our hearts?"
Peace is in the heart of every believer
for "being justified by faith we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ" (Rom. 5:1).
It is in the heart of the one who takes
everything to God in prayer with thanks-
giving: "Be careful (or over anxious)
for nothing; but in everything by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving, let
your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God which passeth all
understanding shall keep your hearts
and minds through Christ Jesus" (Phil.
4:6-7).
Peace is in the heart of everyone con-
centrating on and trusting in the Lord:
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on Thee, because
he trusteth in Thee" (Isa. 26:3).
The entrance of the Lord Jesus into
the world was heralded with: "Glory to
God in the highest, and on earth peace,
good will toward men" (Luke 2:14).
He made peace by the blood of His
cross (Col. 1:20). He is our peace (Eph.
2:14). When He returns as "Prince of
Peace" the righteous will flourish and
"abundance of peace so long as the moon
endureth" (Psa. 72:7).
"Welcome, every rising sunlight,
Peace, peace, is mine!
Nearer home each rolling midnight,
Peace, peace is mine!
Death and hell cannot appall me,
Safe in Christ whate'er befall me,
Calmly wait I, till He call me,
Peace, peace, is mine!"War-Resisting Bread!
Now comes United Press with the amaz-
ing news from the nation's capital city
that a new bread, rich in minerals and
vitamins, will be on the market soon to
help Americans "withstand the stresses
and strains of war or threats of war."
Plans for production of a flour and
bread to improve diets was announced
by the National Research Council, flour
millers and bakers. The formula was
agreed on at meetings with nutrition
experts and Federal food officials.
The new flour and bread which will
be on the grocers' shelves this Spring,
provides for restoration of important
food elements now taken out of flour in
bleaching and other milling processes. It
will be marketed in wrappers identifying
it as "enriched bread" at probably no
increase in retail prices.
It is our conviction that nothing but
living bread could enable Americans to
"withstand the stresses and strains of
war or threats of war"-and the Lord
Jesus said: "I am the living bread which
came down from heaven: if any man
eat of this bread, he shall live for ever:
and the bread that I will give is my
flesh, which I will give for the life of
the world" (John 6:51).
Having given His flesh, He arose from
among the dead on the third day. Death
having no more dominion over Him, He
ever lives to make intercession for us.
The person-be he American or other-
wise-having Christ as His Lord and
Savior and Food and Intercessor should
be able to "withstand all stresses and
strains." The promise is: "Fear thou
not; for I am with thee: be not dis-
mayed; for I am thy God: I will
strengthen thee: yea, I will help thee:
yea, I will uphold thee with the right
hand of my righteousness" (Isa. 41:10).
