December 5, 1837, in the Capitol of the Republic of
Texas at Houston, by MIRABEAU B. LAMAR, ASHBEL
SMITH, THOMAS J. RUSK, WILLIAM H. WHARTON,
JOSEPH ROWE, ANGUS MCNEILL, GEORGE W. BON-
NELL, JOSEPH BAKER, PATRICK C. JACK, W. FAIR-
FAX GRAY, JOHN A. WHARTON, DAVID S. KAUFMAN,
JAMES COLLINSWORTH, ANSON JONES, LITTLETON
FOWLER, A. C. HORTON, J. W. BUNTON, EDWARD
T. BRANCH, HENRY SMITH, HUGH MCLEOD,
THOMAS JEFFERSON CHAMBERS, SAM HOUSTON,
R. A. IRION, DAVID G. BURNET, and JOHN BIRDSALL.
The Society was reconstituted on December 5,
1936. Membership is by invitation. Active and Asso-
ciate Members must have been born within, or must
have resided within, the boundaries of the late Re-
public of Texas.
Offices and Library of the Society are in the Hall
of State, Dallas i, Texas.
