The State School for the Blind,
whose fall term will begin September
15, reports two new teachers succeed-
ing two resigned. and a prospective in-
creased enrollment of thirty or forty

nounced. The new teachers are Miss
Lillian Killough, who will be one of
the music instructors, and Miss Dora
Lynch, physical director, both of whom

Two more rooms have been added to
the Tenth Ward or Palm school dur-
ing the vacation months, and the build-
ing will now be able to accommodate
the children of its territory without
crowding, as has been the case in the
past. The new teachers are Mlaa Betha
Dysart. Miss Louise Adams. Mias Flor-
enco. Morris. Miss Joe Hannah Gray. :
East Austin School
The Bickler or East Austin school
has been repaired and thoroughly over-
hauled while not in use. The roof has
been put in good shape, the heating
plant cleaned up and put In good work-
ing order, and the building generafly
renovated. No new teachers have been
assigned to this school
that has been in place there during the
years since the founding of the man-
ual training school. The new building
is in every way superior to the old tn
its construction work. The cost was
$19,000.
Another department, an experiment
in a way, has been added to the high
school, the commercial department,
whose principal will be Profeasor
Charles H. McGuire, an experienced
teacher and worker in this line. Among
the other new teachers in the high
school are Miss Juliette Wright. Her-
bert 8. Bonham and Miss Florence
O’Leary. Miss O’Leary comes from the
T. Stout Institute I A. Wisconsin, one of
the greatest schools In the country in
domestic science, the subject which
she will teach in the high school Rhe

from the president and has been do-
ing some outalde work that has made
her quite an authority in this line.

Miss Pauline Von Rosenberg and
Mies Jennie Burleson left on the early
International and Great Northern yes-
terday to visit the centennial. celebra-
tl6n at Mexico City. They will be ab-
sent about a month and will visit other
points of interest in Mexico while
gone.
Health Conditions.
In many of these schools, the teach-
ers are required to present testimonials
from an" examining board that they
are free from consumption in any form.
Especially is this true in the public
schools and In Addition the rooms are
being fumigated regularly to insure the
health of the children this year. The
public schools also have strict rules in
regard to vaccination, which will be
enforced to the letter.
University of Texas.
The University of Texas expects the
largest enrollment of its history. Reg-
istration will begin September 28 and
class work will start on October 8.
Quite a few new facet among the fac-
ulty will be seen, on account of resig-
nations and the death of Dr. George
P. Garrison. In the history depart-
ment. which suffered the heaviest
losses, Dr. WNltam R. Manning, late of
George Washington university, will
tach American history: Mr. August C.
Krey, M. A,, of the University of Wis-
consin. will be instructor in medieval
history; work in ancient history will
be under the charge of Dr. Frank Burr
Marsh of the University of Michigan,
and modern European history will be
taught by Mr. Thad W. Riker, B. A.,
of Princeton. -The University ■ is con-
sidered fortunate in securing the serv-
ices of Mr. Hugo F. Kuehne, an old
University man, to take charge of the
school of architecture, which since its
creation by the regents some years
ago, has been unable to offer work,
owing to the fact that a suitable man
could not be found to take charge of

This school will open its session on
