offices remitted to the Austin office, as
thy depository for the State, the aggre-
gate sum of 32.374,698 92, an average of
nearly >600,000 per quarter. •
Austin is the paying office for the
1900 rural carriers in the State, as well
as the receiving office of the surplus
funds of the various postoffices. The
amount disbursed to the rural carriers
is more than 31,600,000 yearly. The
aggregate for last quarter was $397,-
964.85 This is not drawn against the
deposits of the various postoffice hut

Within a few days the contract
which is to mark the first definite
step in the movement for the construc-
tion of the Fredericksburg Railrnaa
will be submitted to the towns along
the line by the committee appointed
for that purpose at the stonewall con-
ference.
The contract will require the wok
to be launched within sixty days from
the time thut it is signed. The com
mittees in each of the town will be-
gin at once to raise the needed funds
for the enterprise nnd to aid in what-
ever way they can The committee
hopes that 375.400 can be raised for
the proposition.
The contract committee is actively at
work and says.that within a few days
it will have something definite to sub-
mit to the people.
