husbands as they left the war
ship the USS Harry E. Hubbard,

The Alathean Class of Baylor
Baptist Church met Tuesday
night at the home of Mrs. Vir-
ginia Crane and Miss Elizabeth
Van Gordon for a covered-dish
supper, monthly business and
social.
After a delicious buffet meal
was served, the group moved to
the living room for the busi-
ness session.
Mrs. E. El Harville, class pres-
ident, presided, calling on Miss
Van Gordon, the class teacher,
for the opening prayer. Mrs.
Elsie Wortman, a visitor,
brought a most interesting and
inspiring devotional.

This being the last meeting of
the church year ,a gift was pre-
sented to the class president,
Mirs. Harville. A gift was pre- ■
seated to Mrs. Wortman, also.

The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore an empire
gown of organza over silk in a
cage design, appliqued with re-
embroidered Alencon lace. The
fitted bodice was styled with a
bateau neckline appliqued
Mrs. Clifford Norman, pro-
. gram leader for month of Sept,
presented an interesting pro-
gram titled “Modern Woman’s
Struggle for Possible Identity.”
The meeting was dismissed
with prayer by Mrs. Norman.
The next meeting is scheduled
for Oct. 18.

The first meeting of the Ennis
Art Club for the new season
was held Tuesday night in the
aittractive home of Mrs. C. A
Vaughn. The patio in the beau-
tiful rear garden of the home
was the scene for a bountiful
and delicious meal, where hur-
ricane lamps lighted the quartet
tables amid the beautiful
shrubs and flowers.
Mrs. Dick Kendall gave the in-
vocation. At the business meet-
ing which followed, the new
president, Mrs. Frank E. Davis,

j o’clock Friday from Love Field,
'Dallas, to Miami, Fla. ,to join
her brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sims o f
Dallas, for a vacation visit there.
Mr .Sims, who is chairman of
the board of The Woodmen of
World, is in the Miami area in
connection with duties for h i is
fratnernity. He and his wife
went there Sept. 20 and will be
there until Sept. 27.
The group will drive back ov-
er the coastal route, by way of
Mobile and New Orleans, about
the first of October.

Miss Koula Lolas of Austin
was the bride’s maid of honor
and Mrs. Michael J. Ordener of
Corpus Christi was her matron
of honor. Bridesmaids were the
bride’s sisters, Mrs. Christopher
Commons and Miss Angela Pol-
lack, both of Corpus Christi.
'They wore formal - length
sheath gowns of Willow Green
peau de soie with chiffon form-
ing a cage design. Their hair-
pieces were Dior bows of t h e
Willow Green peau de soie and
they carried bouquets of bronze
Doty chrysanthemums.
B. V. King of Ennis was h i s
brother’s best man while
groomsmen were Allen Dachne,
Robert Sweeny Jr. and Paul Ce-
brat, all of Portland. Serving as
ushers were Wayne Hill of Port-
land and Frank Pollack of Cor-
pus Christi, brother of the
bride.

The reception followed in the*'
Parish Hall and after their wed-
ding trip to San Antonio, the
counle will live in Portland.
The new Mrs. King was grad-
uated from Incarnate Word
Academy in Corpus Chrsiti and
attended Del Mar College, Cor-
pus Christi, majoring in dental
technology.
The bridegroom was graduat-
ed from Gregory - Portland High
School, attended the University
of Maryland and Del Mar Col-
lege. During his six and a half
years in the US Army, he served
in Okinawa, Vietnam, Thailand
Laos and Singapore. He is em-
ployed by Central Power and
Light Company, Corpus Christi
