M. A. Shumard attended the University of Texas and St. Mary’s University. He spent
51/2 years in military service, his last year he served as Post Judge Advocate at Fort Hood. '
For two years he was Kendall County Tax Assessor. He served for sixteen years as
Kendall County Judge.
Judge Shumard is a past president of Hill Country Bar Association and San Antonio Rifle
Club.
He has spent many years in active work on soil and water conservation practices. In 1969
he received the Outstanding Ranchers award. He is also a winner of Goodyear Conserva-
tion Award. He currently raises Angus cattle on his ranch in Kendall County.
M. A. Shumard is a member of St. Helena’s Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge and
numerous civic organizations.
He has been the owner of Hill Country Abstract Company since 1952.
