Mr. and Mrs. harlie Schultz of
San Antonio, were recent guests of
his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Will Schul-
tz and sons.
Mrs. Gus McCoy and son of Aus-
tin, are spending the week with Mr.
and Mrs. Russel Fagg and family.
Mad Dog Killed Near School House.
Messrs. Frank Creel, Jesse Mills
Leroy Creel and Ambrose Hackworth
killed a mad dog at the Mt. Pleasant
School house Saturday. The dog is
unknown in this community and can’t
say if it bit any dogs or stock as
they found it coming down the road.
It was shot twice before being killed.
Everyone should watch their dogs
for a while.

Mr. Leslie Walker of Austin was a
dinner guest there Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Creel visited
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Mills Saturday

Mt. Pleasant, Oct. 23—Messrs. J.
B. Hackworth, Jessie Mills and Frank
Creel have been digging a well on
Mrs. R. Hackworth’s farm.
Mrs. Albert French is also digging
a well. This drouth is making water
a problem.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Olive of
Austin and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Dun-
gan visited in the Jack Nance home
in the Knobbs community Sunday.

McDade, Oct. 26—McDade is se-
ething with pride and enthusiasm. We
have a young lady in Hollywood,
Miss Josephine Cottle, of Houston.
She was partly reared here, and is
the daughter of the late Walter Cot-
tle and Mrs. Minnie Cottle. Miss Jo-
sephine (she is known better here as
“Baby Jo”) had a recent tryout in
Houston by the “Gateway to Holly-
wood” sponsored by Jesse L. Lasky,
talent scout, producer and organizer
of talent from Texas, and she won
first place in this contest, was sent
to Hollywood for further tryouts
with other talent from Texas. They
give these programs over the radio
on Sunday afternoon at 5:30 C.
B. S. and she won first place, Sun-
day with a young man from Dallas.
There will be one more tryout, which
will be next Sunday, and the winner
gets a contract with R. K. 0. We
are hoping she will win, for we still

A. DeGlandon, Sr., Celebrates Birth-
day.,
The family of Mr. A. DeGlandon,
Sr., met again to celebrate his birth-
day Sunday. All of his children were
present except Mr. Grady DeGlan-
don and family of Austin, only a few
of his grandchildren failed to get
there, this is an annual event, and
Mr. DeGlandon continues in good
health altho his eye sight is very bad,
All had a pleasant day, left wishing
him many more.
Mundine Family Holds Barbecue
The members of the Mundine fam-
ily gave another barbecue out at the
Howery farm, every one was invited
and a large crowd was present, to
partake of the excellent barbecue,
pickles, salad, cake and pies.' Mr. J.
A. Farquhar gave the invocation and
an impromptu talk, which was
enjoyed by all present. If you want
to spend an enjoyable evening, just
get invited to one of these enter-
tainments, they are perfect hosts.
Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Freeman and
daughter were recently in Houston,
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Briggs.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Fiske and son,
of Louise, were recent guests of
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Watson.
Messrs W. A. Fleming and Woma-
ck are quite ill at this time, we hope
they will soon be better.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Farquhar and
Mrs. Trilby Hoerman spent the week-
end at Beaukiss and Taylor with
their mother and grandmother, Mrs.
Lizzie Lane and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Scott and little
daughter of Brenham, and Mr. Wil-
lard Gibbons of Blanco, spent the
week-end wih Mr. and Mrs. W. E.
Scott.
Mr. and Mrs. Quintus Joiner and
son of Rockdale, and Miss Alice Join-
er of Austin spent the week-end here
with their mother and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Watson Wolf and
children spent Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. W. P. Wilson.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Medlenka
of Houston, spent several days with
Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Hudler. Mrs. Med-
lenka and Mrs. Hudler visited their
mother, Mrs. Mary Smith and Mrs.
L. T. Condra, near Elgin.
Rev. H. H. Harrison is holding a
revival at the Church of Christ for a
week. You are urged to attend these
services, which you will enjoy.
Mrs. Tom Mundine is home fol-
lowing a major operation in the Flem-
ing hospital.
Mr. J. L. Alford and daughter,
Miss Hattie, Mrs. Fritz Alford and
daughters, Mrs. Edd Moore and Mr.
and Mrs. Victor Fowler attended the

opossum hunt near Austin Saturday
night. Mr. Alford remained for a visit
with his son, Virgil Alford, of Aus-
tin.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam French,. Mr.
and Mrs. Herman Turner and child-
ren, Mr. and Mrs. Albert French and
children, Miss Nannie French, Am-
brose and Joel Hackworth, of Mt.
Pleasant spent Sunday picnicing on
the Yegua.
Mrs. M. B. Freeman is quite sick,
suffering from a severe cold.
Misses Mytle and Eva Walker of
Mt. Pleasant spent Saturday with
Miss Frankie Hackworth.
Mrs. R. L. Williams is in San An-
tonio visiting with her sister, Mrs.
Frank Clements and Mr. Clements.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Zearfoss, of
Houston were recent guests of Mrs.
Zearfoss’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
Sanders. Thelbert Sanders returned
with them to Houston, where he has
accepted a position.
Mr. G. W. Wehring and daughters
of Waco, Mr. Reynolds Wehring and
family of West, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Leigh Whitworth and family and Mr.
and Mrs. R. F. Wilson of Austin were
Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.
D. Ligon.
Mrs. George Fitzgerald continues
to improve following a major oper-
ation at Fleming hospital.
Mr. W. C. Nance and family were
recent guests of his brother Mr. Ira
Nance and family of Giddings. They
were joined there by another brother
O. W. Nance and family of Austin.
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Kunkel, were
visiting relatives in Smithville Sun-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Spillar of
Austin, and Mrs. Lizzie McClendon
of Elgin spent Sunday afternoon
with Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Kelton.
