We would enjoy having you bring
some pencils, fruit, and nuts to us

foot level where their party is held.
“Genial Jim” Fowler, 225-pound
1 timber boss, strides forth in a Santa
Claus costume and takes his place
at the brightly lighted tree. Like
children around a tree at home, the
miners stand eager and expectant.
Gifts are rib-tickling reminders of
errors during the year. Last year,
for example, the mine carpenter was
given a rule—inspired by a six-inch
error made a few months earlier.
Hello Folks!
Here I am—an old man of fifty
years and I’m not quite at ease at
my age. If some one will be so kind
as to notice this letter in our beloved
little' town paper it will brighten my
holidays.
I am asking of some that are able
to help me out through this Christ-
mas—God will bless you each and
all. I am wishing for a pair of iSun-
day gloves, one half dozen of every
day handkerchiefs and two packs of
razor blades.
Each and all come help me, as I
need help. And it could not be more
appreciated.
Thank you one and all. I’m wish-
ing you A Merry Christmas and A
Happy New Year,
Get Your Name On Santa’s List!
Write a letter to old Santa. He’s entering all the girls and
boys who write him on his gift list, so if you haven’t written, send
your letter in immediately, so we can publish it in our big edition
next week for old Santa to read. It should be in not later than
Monday, as we will have a big paper and must have these letters
early.
Dear Santa Claus:
I am a little girl 7 years old and
I go to school in the first grade.
Will you please bring me a doll
buggy, and a doll to fill it.. Please
bring us some fruit and candy.
Don’t forget my brothers and all
other little kids.
A little friend,
Mary Ethelyn Harrison

Dear Santa Claus:
Please come to see my sister and
me. I am three years old and want
the largest wagon you have. Pat is
only 5 months and doesn’t know the
difference anyway; just bring her
a little old rubber doll.
Sincerely,
David Elmo and Patsy Jean Gold
P. S.: I’ll have to pull Pat in the
wagon, Mother said.

Tho those fourteen women who so
tirelessly and willingly worked to put
over the “Red Cross Drive” and
worked in the interest of the “Local
Civilian Work”, I wish to express my
appreciation.
Never have I seen a finer spirit
of cooperation in committee work,
and this, I‘m sure, came from their
keen interest in the work so much
needed.
Miss Fanny Falls, for years treas-
urer of the local Red Cross Chapter,
who has been the faithful and willing
servant of us all in keeping a correct
record of all funds, memberships and
donors in a very creditable manner.
The success of this drive can be at-
tributed largely to her efficiency.
Mrs. Jack Gillum, publicity chair-
man, was on the job as usual. Mrs.
Finch of the Courier force was most
tireless in her work of seeing that
the object of the work was kept be-
fore the public during the five weeks
campaign.
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Smith, publish-
ers of our most excellent weekly,
gave generously of space for notices
and reports on work, without which
the interest could not have grown as
it did.
The Public, which responded most
generously.
Judge Dannelley, Branch chair-
man, who will continue his labors in
behalf of our unfortunate in Local
Civilian Relief Work.
Thank you all.

ISHPEMING, MICH. — “Silent
Night, Holy Night” drifts mysteri-
ously up the pitch-black Morris mine
shafts here. Down below, 1,500 feet
underground, 200 grimy-faced work-

unique Christmas party, an annual
event held at the Inland Steel com-

What gift could possibly offer more sustained pleasure than a 12 months
Subscription to The Elgin Courier? Clothes wear out, crockery breaks,
but the newspaper with all the news about all the people of the “old home
town”—with bright and interesting correspondents from every communi-
ty in this entire section—always new and interesting.

Please do not forget all the other
little boys and girls and our “Ma”
and “Pa” Weaver. Merry Xmas to
you Santa, your little friends,
