February 9. Games will be-
gin at 6, 7:15, 8:30 and 9:30,
Church teams from Clebume,
Joshua, Godley and First
Baptist of Grandview will be
playing.
The freshmen and sopho-
more classes will sell snacks
which will go for the benefit
of the Youth Fund at the
First Baptist Church, Grand-
view.
The featured game will be
between First Baptist of
Cleburne and Grandview and
will be the final game of the
evening. Both teams are 2-0
in league play.
No admission will be
charged and everyone is in-
vited to attend.
AUSTIN- February 1 and

for Texas motorists to remem-
ber, February 1, in person
motor vehicle registration
begins at county.tax offices
and substations. April 1 is
deadline for, Texas motorists
to display their 1974 license
plates.
RITES HELD WEDNESDAY
FOR WILLARD DAVIS
Bud Cloud, County Exten-
sion Agent announced that
Johnson County 4-H Booster
Club members will be spon-
soring an Open 4-H Volley-
ball Tournament to be held
at the Godley High School
Gym, Friday evening and Sat-
urday, February 15 and 16.
The first game will get under
way Friday evening promptly
at 6:30. There will be a small
entry fee for each team enter-
ing and a small admission
fee for persons attending the
tournament.
The tourney will be a Dou-
ble Eliminations type with
the three first-place teams
winning trophies for each of
its members. Ruls and reg-
ulations will be enforced and
games will be called by two
experienced referees.
Food and drink will be
sold by Johnson County 4-H
'•Adult leaders and Johnson
County 4-H Junior Leaders.
All proceeds will go to the
4-H Booster Club Fund to
help support 4-H activities.
Team participation isopen
to the public. Anyone inter-
ested in entering a team may
obtain more information vand
entry blanks from the Johnson
County Extension Office.
The number of teams being
entered will be limited to
thirty teams. There will be
youngsters thirteen and un- .
der, youngsters, fourteen and
over, and adults nineteen and

The "bug” which has run
rampant at other places has
reached Grandview and a
number of persons are vic-
tims. Supt. Harold Pinkerton
said that about 70 students
were absent from the schools
Monday, Tuesday and Wednes-
day.
Unless absenteeism in-
creases, Supt. Pinkerton said
classes will continue.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Arnold
have sold the Arnolds’ Super
Save grocery to David Wal-
drip, owner of Thrifty Food
Mart here. The deal was con-
sumated Monday, February 4.
The new business will be
known as David’s Super Save
and will operate from the
building which housed
Arnolds’ Super Save.
Mr. Waldrip has been in
the grocery business in
Grandview for the past four
years. The Arnolds have been
in business here for approxi-
mately ten and one-half years.
■Mr. and Mrs. Arnold an-
nounced no plans for the
future, but said they would
continue to make thir home
in Grandview.

Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Hollimon
of Grandview, is a member of
the Ranger Junior College
Rangeann's basketball team.
Jan is a freshman at Ran-
ger Junior College and at-
tended high school at Grand-
view where she played for-
ward on the basketball team.
She was named all district
two years and allstate one
year and north* all star-al ter-
nate for one year.
She was a majorette three
years and was voted FFA
District Sweetheart. At Ran-
ger Junior College Miss
Hollimon is majoring in Bus-
iness-Administration. She en-
joys swimming, horseback
riding and basketball.

59 major cotton-producing counties in Texas. Subjects dis-
cussed at-the two-day meeting included the fuel and fertilizer
situation, forward contracting, Farm Bureau policies on cotton,
boll weevil control, and cotton root rot research.

Lone Star Gas Company
announced that a wholly
owned subsidiary, American
Australian Energy, Ltd., to-
day released a portion of its
lease acreage holdings in
Australia.
The released acreage com-
prises 7.8 million acres in
the State of Queensland, and

is part of an 18.2 million
acre group of onshore li-
censes held by Lone Star
subsidiaries in Australia as
100% operators.
The released acreage is
covered by License 193P, and
is the northwest portion of
three contiguous license
areas that were acquired as
a package in 1972, which to-
gether comprised 17.7 -million
acres. It was recognized at
the time that this particular
block had the least geologic
potential. Subsequent seismic
and other exploration work
on 193P shows that the addi-
tional expenditures required
under its license contract with
the Australian government to
maintain the acreage for a
further year would not be
justified.
Lone Star said exploratory
work to define the geologic
potential of the other two li-
cense areas, totaling 9.9
million acres, and an earlier
acquired one-half million acre
license area in eastern

AUSTIN-The Texas High-
way Commission today author-
ized studies to develop an
alternate route for State
Highway 174 west of the City
of Cleburne (Johnson County).
The Texas Highway De-
partment will conduct studies
and public hearings to deter-
mine route location, right of
way requirements and estima-
ted costs for the project
which, had been requested by
city officials to provide better
highway access facilities to
, the north.
The action was taken in
the interest of advance plan-
ning and the Commission will
further consider the project
for financing upon completion
of the studies and hearings.
The project is subject to
acceptance of customary re-
sponsibilities required of
l oc al 'governments by the.
Texas Highway Department.

W. A. Overstreet this week
announced his. candidacy for
Johnson County Commission-
er of Precinct 4, subject to
the Democratic Primaries.
Overstreet, an Oklahoma
native, is the owner and op-
erator of AAA Paint & Body
Shop, Cleburne.
He attended Adamson High
School, Dallas, and North
Texas Agricultural College.
He was formerly in the used'
car business in Richland Hills
and worked for many years in
the claims department for an
insurance company and served
as manager of the Fort Worth
office.
Overstreet helped to or-,
ganize the Richland Hills
Police Reserve and was a Lt.
in the department. He holds
a.commission through the
Texas Commission on Law
Enforcement Officer Stand-
ards and Education.
He is a veteran of World
War II and served in Naval
Ordnanc in the Pacific The-.
ater.
Overstreet is married to
the former Duskie Blair. They
have three children, William
G. Overstreet, Arlington,
Perry W. Overstreet, Joshua,
and Mrs. Rob Owens of Hal-

Funeral services for Will-
ard Davis of Lake Hamilton,
Arkansas were held at 1 p.m.
Wednesday at Restland Me-
morial Chapel in Dallas.
Burial was in Hillcrest Me-
morial Park, Richardson.
Willard Lollar Dayis was
bom and reared in Grandview,
and was the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Davis.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs.-’Boyce Rush Davis of
Lake Hamilton; a' daughter,
Mrs. Shirley Hargus of Dallas;
two brothers, Miles T. Davis
of San Diego, California and
C. E. Davis of Austin, and
five sisters, Mrs. Ovela Stults
