There ere many good arguments against nudear
power, but the one which should make the most
sense to the power companies to the economic one.
A certain expense concerns the long term storage
of nuclear wastes. Now and in the near future there to
no other practical solution, no simple process, no
plan to get rid of the many tone of wastes produced
weekly. Failure to adequately store the wstes means
■ increased daadkf radioactive pollution.
Another ever growing expense to caused by necen
aary governmental regulation and control. New and
. existing facilities must be brought in line with current
technology end better safety and training procedures.
Industry complains about such regulation because it
costs, but the welfare of the public must and will come
before corporate interests.
The nuclear power industry can buy no insurance.
Ths insurance industry knows the risks. Law suits
based on health and injury claims might cost the
power companies millions of dollars each year. And
guess who finally will have the bill "passed on" to them?
