Q. 1 hale been collecting
Social Security disability
benefits for 9 years. In a
few months, I’ll be 65.
Should igle an application
for retirement benefits?
A. No:you are receiving
checks as. disabled worker,
your disability benefits will
automatically be changed to
retirement benefits when
you reach 65. If you are get-
ting checks as a disabled
worker, disabled widow, or
widower, you will get in-
structions when you reach
65 because your rights and
responsibilities will be some-
what different from what
they are now.
Q. I have only been
working in my current job
as a mechanic for one year.
Before that I was in the
Navy for 4 years. Have I
worked long enough to get
Social Security disability
benefits?
