Last week marked the end of the 1 982-83
basketball season. All five classes crowned new
champions in Austin this past Saturday. Sitting •
in the crowd on Saturday there were a number
of things that were very apparent about the
really good teams. Some of these included good
coaching, dedication to the vrogram belief in
what they were doing, discipline, and getting the
most out of the talent available. Several of the
teams in Austin were not heavily laden with
talent, but sure played well together and .because
of this defeated a more talented ball club.

the rosters were like something out of Alice
in Wonderland.’ . Paschal by far was greatly,
undermanned in sue.’ The Houston and San
Antonio entries looked nore like major college
basketball teams. Both Bryan and Paschal out
played their opponents on Friday. Both tears
matched up very well for Saturdays champion-
ship, but Bryan turned out to Im* too strong.
The game was close early, but Bryan nulled
away late to win 71-54.
In addition to the tournament the end of the
season brings with it the naming of the all

Snook again repeated as Class A champions.
All their games were never close. No one could
match up to their talent. There doqsn’t seem to
be amend to their dominance because they had
only one senior on the team Word has if they
have a 6 foot 6 inch 8th grader to take his place.
The class 2A championship was actually decid-
ed on Friday even though the actual chamnion-
shin game was on Saturday. ThP Coppell-Morton
game on Friday may have been the most excit-
ing game of the tournament. Both teams scored
in the last 10 seconds of play which brought
the crowd to an emotional high. Unfortunately
for Coppell, Morton scored the last basket with
2 seconds left and handed their a 82-81 victory.
Both two teams are perfect examples of teams
getting the most out of their, available talent.
The whole game was most enjoyable from both
a coaching and spectators point of view.
' Dimmitt again showed why hard work and
strong fundamentals are so important in basket-
ball. They were the only team at the tourna
ment to finish the season unblemished with a
38-0 record. They did not physically look like:
potential 3A state champions, but do they ever
plav like champs.
The class 4A championship went . to
Waxahachie. They were much more talented
than any of the 4A entries. This was their 4th
trip in as many years and finally brought home
the 1st place trophy.
