make the flowers and grass grow, but we seem
to have a problem with the weeds also, but Bud
seems to know how to take care of those weeds,
he sure has every thing looking nice. We are so
happy to have the trees on the grounds and to
see how they have grown this snring.
A big thanks to all that have been sharing the
fresh vegetables with the residents.

Brucellosis Legislation To
Be In A Special Session
The president of the Texas Farm Bureau has
called upon Gov. Mark White to include
brucellosis legislation in a special session of the
Texas Legislature at the “earliest possible date.”

sign made. The sign able to see it and it
was made and broght will be able to be re-
to Grandview where it moved when baseball
was presented to the season is-over.
At the end of last
year’s baseball season,
Linda Peacock, Sec. of
the Grandview Youth
Association went be-
fore the Grandview
City Council to ask
that the baseball field
be named. In the past
it has been the base-
ball park, Grandview
park and many other
names.
If the field was to be
named it needed t o
voters this fall which
would allow the in-
voluntary assignment
of child support when
the individual was two
or more payments be-
hind. This provision
would be effective
only if approved by the
voters.
Although the mere
mention of the word
“wage assignment”
makes most legislators
shudder, most felt that
a tight and restrictive
wage assignment was
needed to meet the
problems of delinquent
child support. Texas
ranks 49th out of 50
states in the collection
of child support. Top
many parents were not
meeting their obliga-
tions to support their
children. In many

will have an impact on
the problems they try
to solve.

be issued to the needy citizens. Any person who

brucellosis legislation “is inportant not only to
the bef cattle and dairy industry, but to the
economy of the state as a whol."
The USDA notified the state April 18 that it
would impose a quarantine effective June 1 that
would restrict the -movement of cattle out of
Texas unless legislation was approved which
conformed to federal standards.
The Texas House of Representatives approved
HB 701, the Brucellosis Control Bill, during the
regular session of the Texas Legislature. How-
ever, the Texas Senate failed to approve the bill
before the session adjourned May 30.
Faced with the quarantine order by USDA,
Federal Judge James Nowlin of Austin granted a
temporary restraining order May 31 sought by
the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers
Association which delayed the USDA action.
Nowlin has scheduled a hearing for June 16 or
17, to determine whether preliminary or

In his letter to White, True stated that Texas
must “go forward with an eradication program '
of brucellosis. He called- it important both to
the livestock industry and to public health
because ‘ brucellosis effects human beings as
undulant fever.”
The National Brucellosis Technical Commission
was appointed at the request of the Texas cattle
industry in 1976. After a two-year study, the
commission concluded that brucellosis could be
eradicated.
The state animal health commissions from the
50 states and cattle industry organizations,
working through the U.S. Animal Health
Association, adopted most of the commission’s
