and superintendent of the pre-
sent staff are the best ever
employed in Boerne. He also
stated that the students who
leave Boerne High School are

Superintendent of Schools,
Barry Jackson reported on the
scores of ACT and SAT tests
taken by about 59% of the 1978
senior class. On the average the
Boerne scores for the SAT
math and verbal tests were
more than twenty points above

Tom Notestine, award win-
ning watercolorist and teacher,
will be one of the outstanding
artists to be present for the
Boerne Berges Fest Art Show
this weekend to be held at the
Fairgrounds. Mr. Notestine
won the World-Wide Air Force
Art show held in San Francisco
and the International Art Show
held in Brownsville both last
year.

trations for the show to make it
one of the largest events of its
kind in Texas.

artist, the daughter of Boerne
resident Mrs. Ralph Mead, will
also show her art.
Mr. Notestine will be showing
his three new limited edition
prints. He and Mrs. Notestine
recently returned from Puerto
Vallarta Mexico where they
taught a workshop there with
artists from all over the mid
west and southwest attending.
Mrs. Mead also accompanied
them on this trip. In April they
flew to Kansas where a two-
person show was held in their
honor for four days.
In March of this year a taped
interview with Tom about his
art was broadcast over 60 radio
stations by Tumbleweed Smith.
He has been a blue ribbon
winner in the Coppini competi-
tion for the past two years and
recently demonstrated for their
annual Garden Show which he
has done for the past three
years. The artist and teacher
has taught Workshops in the
Hill Country, South Padre
Island and several places in
Mexico. One of his galleries
where he shows is in Puerto
Vallarata and he has been
asked to have a one-man show
there this winter. He has given
demonstrations in the past year
at the Brownsville Museum,
Harlingen -Art Forum, New
Braunsfels Art League (Also
judged their art show),
McAllen, Kerrville, Kansas,
Coppini Academy of Fine Arts,
plus other groups in San
Antonio. Various Art groups in
South Dakota, McAllen and
Harlingen have asked him to
give workshops in the next few
months.
His paintings are in the
collections of presidents,
Generals, and private indivi-
duals from California to
Georgia from South Dakota to
Central America.
Dorothy Notestine, has taught
classes one in oil, three in
watercolor this past winter
through the Adult education
Program of the San Antonio
college. She paints also in

under such nationally known
artists as John Pike and Edgar
Whitney of New York, Millard
Sheets and Robert E. Wood of
California, Zoltan Szabo of

Artists. She is especially known
for impressionistic florals and
her Mexican paintings.
The Notestines paintings will
be featured at the new Country
Kitchen Restaurant opening
soon in Boerne. One of the
paintings that will be shown
there is one that Mr. Notestine
is currently painting of the local
Catholic Church in Boerne. The
Notestines live in San antonio.

Lamar University, and has
sung extensively in churches,
at conventions, and for special [
occasions. She is accompanied
on the piano by her husband '
who is also a composer and I
trumpeteer.
Mr. Barkley graduated from
Lamar University in Beaumont. ■

Country” Subdivision appeared
before the City Council at their
Regular Meeting on June 12
and presented his annexation
petition. The Council granted
variance for a 50-foot right-of-
way for streets within the
subdivision. Raybourne re-
ported that the streets will be
complete with a rolled curb and
gutter section of concrete, well
contoured to the land.
It was further reported that
the developer’s retained ease-
ment for the purpose of utilities
comprises a 10-foot strip
around the lots, which are
large, averaging 2 acres in size.
A 25-foot strip including the
easement to the rear of the lots
will reportedly be used for a
riding trail. Lots will have
individual water wells and
septic tanks and electricity will
be provided by Bandera Elec-
tric Coop.
A public hearing for the
proposed annexation will be
held Monday evening, June 26.
In other business, Mr. Verne
Marrs and Gene Sparks of the
Texas Highway Department
appeared regarding the South
Main Traffic Control Project. It
was reported that on Monday
evening, June 26, a public
hearing will be held to consider
changing South Main from
Bandera Rd. to Cibolo Creek
into a 5-lane highway with
protected left turn lanes and no
parking on either side of the
street.
Also to be discussed is the
installation of left turn lanes at
Main and Blanco which would
entail a no parking zone on
Main St. from San Antonio St.
to Lohmann and on Blanco from
Watts to the edge of the
Kendall Inn property.

kindergarten; Martha Guin,
first grade; Mary Helen
Thompson, third grade; Anita
Ferguson, fourth grade; and
Edith Burkey, fifth grade.
