Dr Brown tells how the Michelson

"What’s Going on in the World
Today.”)
Today the situation is reversed. Worthwhile people are paying their
bills promptly. Putting them off for months and months is no longer
customary. The merchants do not permit or sanction it as they once
did. And the few individua who still adhere to the old practice are
becoming enlightened—gently in some cases, forcibly in others, cour-
teously in all—as to the wrong they are doing.
No man today will boast of the accounts he pays "whenever he feels —
like'it." No group of men will smile with the one who speaks pride-
fully of the money he owes, and which is overdue.

EVn in our solar system, the
ratio between empty space and the

great that the figures are almost

NEW YORK, June 20—Just
as we begin to think that physics
has solved the millions of mys-
teries pertaining to matter and
energy, we wake up suddenly to the
fact that the greatest mysteries of
all are staring us in the face.
Among these is the enigma of emp-
ty space. .
Prior to the time of the famous
Michelson and Morley experiment
on ether drag, we were fairly con-
tent to fill all empty space with
ether and to define its properties,
and purposes as fully and accurate-
ly as was done for matter itselr.
The ether very readily absorbed the
burden of transmitting light, heat,
electricity, magnetism, and possibly
the force of gravitation.
The evidence of the Michelson
