W M. S met in the church Mon-
day with 12 members present. Mrs.
Nora McIntosh offered devotional
and taught lesson, the subject of
which was unity. Prayer was by Mrs.
Sam Hodges. The financial report
on the friendship quilt was 856.70
and plans were made to quilt it next

Eight prisoners, given a total of
81 years and six months on their
convictions. were taken from the
Denton County Jail Tuesday by
State Penitentiary Agent Russell
and started for Huntsville. where
they will begin serving their various

B Parr of Houston, a young bride
of two weeks, is convinced that the
strange symbol reported left by the
abductors of the Lindbergh baby
was made by a student of biology

This leaves 15 men in jail at the
present time, only one of whom is
under penitentiary sentence. John
Rippy, convicted of murder, is still
waiting a. final decision on nis case
from the appellate court at Austin.
The men taken from here Tues-
day, the nature of their convictions
and sentences assessed, were as fol-
lows:
Charles C. Johnson Jr, murder.
35 years; Hubert Johnson, liquor,
eight years revoked suspended sen-
tence and three years sentence from
stinnett; Robert Leverett. theft. 10
years; W D. Lawson, chicken theft,
four years; Bill Smith, chicken
theft, four xears; T. N. Lewis, per-
jury. two years and 18-month sus-
pended sentence revoked, besides a
two-year Dallas sentence and - a
three-year Athens sentence; Homer
Rambo, transporting liquor, two

Clinics in Denton

eligible to enroll in school next
September were examined as a
part of the health clinic hele at
the R. E. Lee School Wednesday
morning. Fifteen of those examined
had defects, with a total of 32 de-

A similar clinic will be held at
the West Ward Schoo! Thursday
morning from 9 tn 10 o'clock, and
next Monday. the-North Ward
School will hold a heaith clinic.

Witnesses said the automobile
came to a stop on the railroad track.
They surmised the machine stalled
as the driver tried to shift gears on
the steep incline at the track.
