NEW YORK Aug. 31.4The
habit of writing tinis to Babe
Ruth's baseball career, a popular
winter pastime for years. now has
<extended to the home run king
himselr.
"I guess I might as Well hang
up my spikes," he said mournfully
last night. "I can’t sign up as a
player next year. Tlie legs won't
stand it. I might get by at first
base, but not in the outfield. Im
through."
While the boys have been guess-
ing him into the management ol
eithef the White Sox or the Red
Sox next season, Ruth knows noth
ing about it.
"That's up to several other peo-
ple besides myself," he said. "I'm
still the property of the Yankees if
another etub wanted me for man-
agar they would have . to make
some sort of a deal with Col. Rup-
pert. It’s up to the owners at the
other clubs. I haven't been ap-
proached, even unofficially. by any-
one."
The Babe then had another idea
"Maybe I'll just voluntarily re-
tire for a year. I could stand a long
vacation and then see how things
work out in 1935."
He d like to go to Bermuda and
Mrs. Ruth would prefer Europe.
The Babe guessed they’d probably
compromise on Europe.

fourth term as a national doubles
