But Girl*!
Mile. Theilade, wh is now only eighteen, first at-
tracted international attention in 1931 when she appeared
as solo dancer in Professor Reinhardt’s production of
‘Hoffman’s Erzahlungen" at the Grosses Schauspielhaus
in Berlin. She had been launched on her career the pre-
ceding year by Anna Pavlowa, not long before the great
dancer’s tragic death. It was Pavlowa who arranged for
Nini Theilade’s debut at the Hague in 1929:—an appear-
ance that resulted in a tour of Germany, Switzerland, Hol-
land, and Scandinava—and the subsequent appearances
under Max Reinhardt, Germany’s foremost theatrical pro-
ducer. 4 ,, f
One of Europe’s noted critics said of her a few years
ago: “If one wishes to see youthful, noble, brilliant, and
beautiful dancing—the dancing of a rising star who will
without doubt reach the highest pinnacle, here is the
opportunity. Who will not be proud to say in 1940, I saw
Nini Theilade ten years ago?”

All three negroes met their fate
without flinching. Mott, .fortified
with a tremendous meal, said good-
bye to inmates of death row and
walked into the death chamber with
a smile on his face. The Burkley
brothers, who had turned to rell-
i gion with almost fanatical devotion
seemed convinced they had "made
peace with God."
Dallas County officers talked with
the Burkley brothers shortly before
they were eletrocuted. The negroes
told the oficers they had "got right
with God" and, finally, gave them
two Bibles to take back to their
mother in Dallas.
