Honoring their retiring president,
aa has been the custom of the club
since its organisation, the Junior
Shakespeare Club entertained with
an appreciation tea and shower for
Mrs. Alfred Evans, who has served
the dub two years, in the home of
Mrs Henry Bradford Tuesday aft-
ernoon. A number of lovely gifts
were presented the honoree by lit-
tle Jane Harrell, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs George Harrell. The home
was decorated with gladioluses and
sweet peas, and the hostess served
an ice course. Mrs. J. D. Hall Jr.,
sponsor of the club from the Shake-
speare Club, was a special guest.

A round-robin baseball tourna-
ment and a contest of track and
fled events and games will be held
by the three Denton ward schools,
according to a schedule worked out
by the principals.
The purpose of the tournament
and contest is to keep the children
interested during the last weeks of
school, and to give them an oppor-
tunity to compete with children of
their own age In contests. The chil-
dren were dissatisd’ willi thel
events of the Intel SLltotaslie League
because they were forced to com-
pete with sixth and seventh grade
students, and the plans of competi-
tion among the ward school stu-
dents has met with hearty approval

A window display contest wil be
a feature of the spring opening to
be held by Denton merchants
Thursday night Most of the mer-
chants of Denton will, participate
end will keep their stores open to-
morrow evening, with a special dis-
play of the latest merchandise. .
Show windows wil be velled and
special displays arranged. In contest,
contestants will visit each business
house, when the windows are un-
veiled at 8 p. m Thursday and lo-
cate the windows by placard as
"contest window •' They will then
locate smaller white cards with red
letters that, when put together, will
spell out the slogan of each busi-
ness house
Contestants will turn in their
answers to the Record-Chronicle
office before 10 p. m Thursday. Each
answer will be numbered and the
first three nearest correct will re-
ceive the awards. Name and ad-
dress must be plainly written on
each contestant's answer.
The first prise is $7.50, second $5
and third WM.
A 30-piece Denton band, under
the direction of Johnny Lawhon,
will play a concert on the court
house lawn starting at 7 o’clock
and continuing for an hour. M
