Miss Cooper also told of a trip
she made to a drug store with Mr*
Patterson. She said Mrs. Patter-
son ordered a poison, explaining to
the elerk she "wanted to kill rts—
they’re about to take the place."
The druggist did not have the
poison but recommended a common
rat poison which Mrs. Patterson
purchased. Miss Cooper testified.
The maid said Mrs Patterson
told her then: That's not what I
want.”
Miss Cooper added that she had
never seen a rat about the Patter-
son home.

day by Judge George P. Elbert, aft-

All are set for next week, the third
week of the spring term. The set-

der $50; Dan Cockrell, theft under
$5; Max Collier, swindling under
$50 with worthless check; Ace Alex-
ander. selling liquor; Benson Curry,
possessing liquor for sale; Tom But-
ler, possessing liquor for sale; Don
Mize, possessing liquor for sale; P.
L. Thompson, swindling under $50
with worthless check.
Tuesday: Gene Lawson, simple as-
sault; Morgan Hampton, possessing
liquor for sale; Bernice Brotherton,
selling liquor; Joe Miler, aggravat-
ed assault. Charlie Miler, main-
taining a nuisance
Wednesday: O. F Clark, unlaw-
fully possessing unstamped clga-
rettes.
Thursday: Bill White, unlawfully
taking fish

Charles Olen Smith. 22. of Vidor.
Orange County. died today of in-
juries received when he was struck
by a truck while working on his
children of the first wearers, in
early Texas scenes of the pagcant
Tuesday night. From the opening
scene in an Indian village to the
grand finale of present-day Texas,
costuming was • particularly out-
standing by John E. Lawhon.
Leading roles of figures familiar
to every Texan were taken by Bil-
lie Bob Gale as Moses Austin,
Johnny Whitson and Curtis Doo-
ley as Stephen F. Austin in the
Mexican and American episodes,
respectiveiv. Gordon Carpenter and
Frank Mills as Sam Houston in
these. two episodes, Berkley

Commerce, and Mrs. Patterson, In
which Mrs. Lemons asked the wo-

Mrs Patterson was quoted as re-
plying:
"No, why?” a
Mrs Lemons then said, accordimg
to the maid: "Well, I thought may-
be you had and Dorothy got hold of
it."
“No, there's never been rat poi-
son here,” the maid said Mrs Pat-
terson replied,
A few minutes after Dorothy
died, Miss Cooper testified. Mrs.
Patterson called her into the living
room of her Commerce home and
told her:
