Pope’s Condition
Is Causing Aalrm
VATICAN CITY, Jan. 23—-
Pope Plus XI was reported today
by persons close to him to be threat-
ened with the imminent danger of
gangrene in his paralysed left leg.
Dr. Aminta Milani was said to
be most worried by the develop-
ment, attributed to the almost com-
1 piste wee film of blood circulation
in the pontiff's legs.
Members of the Papal Court were
said to have expressed their alarm
at the poor state of the holy tath-
ers heart action. -
Despite his condition, the pope
insisted on being transferred to his
portable divan for an audience with
Cardinal Pacelk, papal secretary of
state.

There are all sort of ways of cared
looking at women, most of them
cream, wiped off thoroughly with
crepe paper tissues, then cover it
with another, rich in nourishing
oils, while you take your warm bath.
Dry it and let it "breathe” while
you sleep.
Avoid Burns
Before you dress in the morning
smooth over it one of the new cream
tonics which many smart modems
are using instead of sun oils to pre-
vent sunburn, and let it serve as
the foundation over which you ap-
ply your makeup. Used carefully,
it will do much to keep your skin
from scorching and will help it to
take on easy, even tan. It should be
applied to any part of the skin
which the sun's rays may touch.
Don’t lie for hours in the sun
the first day you reach the beach.
Begin with a fifteen minute sun-
bath and increase it by a few min-
utea each day, to prevent blister-
ing.

Secretary Perkins taking time off
from strike worries to pass out some
good news, said today the country
spent 1143 per cent more to build
homes last year than in 1935.
This represented at least 270,000
new nonfarm dwellings. In the
opinion of Stewart McDonald, the
housing administrator. He predact:
ed a 50 per cent increase in 1937
for a total of between 400,000 and
450,000 new homes.
