Fort Worth heaved itself into
second place again, the barest of an
edge separating the Cats from the
faltering Beaumonters, The Pan-
thers slipped into the runner-up po-
sition by the power of their bats
which slugged Beaumont into an 8-3
defeat, and the loss by Oklahoma
City of a doubte-headed to Galves-
ton. 5 to 4 and 3 to 1.
The Cats got away fast, bitting
the ball for six runs in the first
three innings and making Beau-
mont's errors count.
Eddie Cole and Jack Jakucki were
the pitching heroes for Galveston
in the double win. Cole allowed 10
hits and Jakucki four, and were
backed up perfectly afield, where
the Bucs made not an error.
Ban Antonio exhibited its poradic
batting power in clubbing out a 13-3
victory over Dallas,»whose three
pitchers were sadly lacking in con-
trol. Johnny Bams. Mission starting
pitchet. had the correct wave-length
for seven innings, holding the Steers
scoreless. Then the Mavericks turn-
ed him out with a double and three
singles in the eighth for their two
runs. Leibhardt took over for San
Antonio and the scoring for Dallas
ended.
George Milstead, Tulsa lefthand-
er. shut out Houston 5 to 0 in a
great exhibition of controlled pitch-
ing. He allowed five hits in as many
innings and the rest of the time
kept the Buffs swinging in vain.

Concluding the week's softball
tilts for the Civic League Friday
night, the Central Presbyterians de-
feated the Kiwanians in a close bat-
tle, 8 to 8.
The Clubmen took an early lead
but lost this in the fourth when the
Churchmen collected four hits, in-
eluding a home run by Baker and
doubles by Chambers and Calhoun.
Following up in the fifth round, the
Presbyterians again counted two
and in the seventh one, totalling
nine.
A seventh-inning rally by the
Kiwanians proved a serious threat
but it was repelled after two had
been scored with two more on bases.
Thompson, who came to bat at the
crucial moment, took a swing and
sent one to deep right Held, but
Grandey, Presbyterian fielder, re-
tired the side:
Pitching for the winners was
Homer Baker who struck out five
and walked none, while Moore of
the Kiwanians struck out one and
walked one.
